simultaneous data and voice?

E21

Newbie
Does anyone know if the Incredible 2 will be able to do simultaneous data and voice like the Thunderbolt?

Oh and if the rumor of an April 21st release is true - what a nice birthday present for me! :)

Believe it or not, Verizon has indicated that some 3g phones CAN do simultaneous voice and data. They have kept it quiet as not all phones can, and I think the older towers cannot, but it is technically possible.

I hope that this will be the case for the Dinc Deuce, but I doubt it.

I have simultaneous data and voice with my Thunderbolt even when it's on 3G. Many of us turned off the 4G to save battery. I've rooted and my battery life is great, so I'm back to leaving 4G on all the time. But yeah, it does work with 3G only. I don't know if the Inc 2 would have this ability, though.

The Incredible 2 is global but not 4G, so just the plain CDMA network if you stay in the states. Still a sexy phone though.

Since there are demo phones out now someone should be able to verify whether simultaneous voice/data is possible like on the TB..

ok, I'm considering the Inc 2 as my first Android phone. So, please don't hate for me asking what would appear to be a dumb question.

Looking on the HTC website comparing the Inc to the Inc 2. Their website shows shows "Flash 8GB + 512 RAM" for the Inc but only shows "768 MB RAM" for the Inc 2. Does this mean the Inc 2 will store less apps since it doesn't have the 8Gb Flash?

Ive been able to talk and surf the net at the same time since day one on my lg ally when connected to wifi.
So I have never understood the statement you cant do that on verizon.
But I will be buying a Dinc2 tomorrow and I suspect it will work.
I'm more wondering about 3g video calls using that front facing camera

On AT&T you can talk and surf WITHOUT Wifi, just using 3G. This is only possible with the Thunderbolt on Verizon. The dInc2 will not have this feature. You will not be able to talk and surf using 3G ONLY.

But talking and surfing on Wifi will work, as it does on every device.

Oh ok...
thank you

Is that speculation or do you have the phone?

I do not have the phone, but it is not speculation, it is fact.

The Thunderbolt has a completely different radio inside of it, the radio that is required for simultaneous voice and data over 3g. The dInc2 does not have this radio.

Really, what radio is that?

It's the SVDO chipset and network that allow simultaneous voice and data while only on 3G with no wifi. The Thunderbolt has it, haven't seen anything about the Inc2 having SVDO. Nothing to do with LTE. Every previous 3G device on vzw has had EVDO, not SVDO. The TB is the first with SVDO. No idea if the Inc2 has it. If it does, it can do it. If it doesn't, it can't.

Okay... Here are my results.

Phone + WiFi = Data!
Phone + 3G = No Data!

Hope that helps!

Thanks! If you're like me, you've probably been toying with it since you got it. How's the battery looking? (coming from a TBolt, this is my main issue - and the smaller form factor)

No problem. Glad that got settled.

I've been playing with it non stop since I got it this morning. My productivity has suffered to say the least. When I got the phone I probably had about 25 to 30% battery out of the box at best. After all of the updating, syncing, playing around with ringtones, settings, etc I just dropped down to 15% battery. It's charging up right now. I'll give it another go-round this evening.

If it is a 4g phone, then yes.

TB does simultaneous voice + data over 3G using SVDO. It's a new capability that not every Verizon phone will have. In fact, Verizon has gone as far to say that 4G phones without SVDO capability may not initially be able to do simultaneous voice + data.

Sorry to drag this out further.. but I'm doing some research on the phone since I'm trying to talk a friend into it. When I was looking at the phone itself and went into the settings (##778#), under the modem options, there was a toggle under the "Modify Rev. A" setting for eHPRD.

I was under the impression that not all 3G areas support eHPRD (which I believe allows simultaneous data & voice over 3G) so some people may not be able to do it at all...

So what I guess I'm getting at is, if eHPRD isn't supported on the Incredible 2, the toggle for the setting... is just a byproduct of common software over the phones?
