Simultaneous Data and Voice

I think it will be a very nice feature, to be able to web surf and know it will not make you miss incoming calls.

It doesn't make you miss calls. For example, on a regular CDMA phone you can load a website and then be reading it, have a call come in, and take the call. You just can't load a new page while on the call due to the way it manages the radio.

Rumor around town is that they are working on setting it up so that you can browse over Wimax while on a call in the way I assume you can browse via Wifi while on a call. Since my phone is primarily a messaging/data/PDA device I don't really need this but it will be nice for those few occasions it might be needed. Typically I only use speaker phone for waiting on hold so I would have my phone to my ear anyway if I was on a call. I wait on hold maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

I'm an avid data user with my current iPhone and I can tell you that using an application or web and being able to put someone on speakerphone while booking movie/restaurant is a wonder use of technology. In fact I can not count how many times I've used it. Now to nedorian's point IF the EVO can atleast allow calls to come in while allowing you to view the page your currently on, that's atleast half of the battle of being able to do voice and data at the same time. For this beauty of a phone I'm switching. Unless the iPhone HD is just that damn good.

Keep in mind you will at least be able to do voice and data through a wifi connection, so it's not a total loss if they can't do it with 4G.

Its not really that important. I never had one case where i felt that it was necessary. It would be nice to have, i guess. But with text, email and instant messaging, its easier to communicate there and multitask.

This has always been the case. Data is downloaded and rendered in your browser. If the connection is broken, it doesn't delete the data from your browser's cache or whatever. You just won't be able to transfer any more data until the call is ended.

I believe that on this phone they are looking at new ways of managing the radios and flow of data so that you can use Wimax for data while using the traditional bands for voice.

I agree that you will be able to make the call once the page finish downloading (no "Simultaneous Data and Voice" as the post topic though) but as an example, today I had to end a call and ask to call again -No biggie- so my Palm Pro can update the Gmail maps because I was driving and wanted to know where I was heading.

It is not a deal breaker if the network can do so, this is not a device dependent feature, for me it is just a "very nice feature" to have. :)

And the even better News is that they are working on it!
