Help Since uograding to 2.3 phone keeps sync Gmail

I downloaded and upgraded the Desire Z to 2.3.3 today

Even though I have the sync option turned off for my Gmail account, it still keeps checking for new emails.

Any ideas?

Are you using the new Gmail app or the old one?
