Siri vs Speaktoit

Actually, having used SpeakToIt on my SGSII, I find that Voice Actions, free from the Market, is better.

Whilst Voice Actions lacks the configurable avatar of SpeakToIt, it is much more reliable and offers more information and better results.

I would place Voice Actions over SpeakToIt as a challenger for Siri.

I tried SpeakToIt the other day, and while it was a lot more reliable in interpreting my voice input than the standard GS2 voice apps (whenever I've tried dictation I've been getting nothing but hilarious and wildly inaccurate results) or Vlingo which I also tried the other day, it just seems like a novelty and in most cases a potentially slower and more (in case of misinterprets) frustrating way of accomplishing tasks I could have done faster the old fashioned manual way.
The exception might be using it as a very basic knowledge base, where asking questions can be faster than typing in Google.

I suspect I would feel the same way about the much advertised Siri.

Oh, and nearly every time I tried shutting down SpeakToIt with a voice command I felt like throwing my phone against the wall. It would consistently interpret my pronunciation - no matter how fast, slow, mumbled or articulated - of "exit" as "Texas", and "close" as (if I recall correctly) "coaches" :).

I must say that I get a good "hit" rate with Siri, SpeakToIt and Voice Actions as they seem to like my accent, or lack of.

Perhaps we will now see a return to "Received Pronunciation" as used on the BBC during the 1920's to 60's.

I have a vision of an upsurge in elocution lessons for those wishing to use voice activated features on their phones. :D

I've removed a couple of posts due to bickering. Please leave that stuff out of the threads here in the device forums, which are supposed to be about exchanges of info, not spitballs. ;)

I'd like to leave this thread open.
