Skip Froyo to Gingerbread?

Please, don't start bashing Samsung now. I just want to know if it's possible. There is no reason we would need Froyo before Gingerbread, right?

I've been wondering about this since the Nexus S buzz. As far as I can tell, it's really just another Galaxy S phone; not much different than my Vibrant. I know most of you will call me a dreamer, but I have to wonder if the delay in Froyo was to let the Nexus S come out first, with a plan to bump the rest of the Galaxy S devices up to Gingerbread after.

I also happend to see this report, just today.
 
I doubt we'll ever see an official Gingerbread on this phone.

If we hear official word that Samsung is skipping Froyo and going straight to Gingerbread, I'd actually be pretty worried. I'd say that would increase our chances of getting nothing at all. By the time they would have Gingerbread ready, it could be end of life for the phone.
 
Google is backing up Nexus S and Samsung is backing up the Galaxy S phones. If Samsung doesn't release the source code for the Nexus S, then I highly doubt they will be skipping Froyo. It will probably take them another couple of months or more to modify gingerbread and all that other stuff manufacturers like to do.

I'm not bashing Samsung, I actually try to defend them, but I'm just stating from what I've read and seen.
 
You guys must be joking right??? Why would they give us gingerbread? If they did that, nobody would buy Nexus S since that phone is actually a "modified" vibrant. A JOKE in my opinion. Im waiting for a dual core processor phone and i doubt i will ever again buy a Samsung phone (did you guys know that MyTouch 3G has 2.2?.....yeah so much for Samsung)
 
Is it possible that someone, that someone NOT being Samsung, will get the proper drivers, and everything else need to make Gingerbread work on the vibrant? Yes, then that is possible.

If your question, however, is the following; is it possible that Samsung and T-Mobile will skip 2.2 and joyously provide us with Gingerbread. NO, that is your answer.

Any Gingerbread, prior to Samsung/T-mo releasing it, will be need to obtained from other means.

Yes, it's entirely possible to run Gingerbread on a Vibrant. Its hardware is sufficient, and for that matter very similar to what the Nexus S will have.

I have no doubt that there will be devs who work on porting 2.3 to the Galaxy S phones as soon as they get their hands on the code.

It's obvious to anyone that if you cannot get something from one source then you have to get if from another.

Is there anyone out there that thinks that if Samsung does not provide the update that they will get the update from Samsung ?

You can root your phone now. It won't keep you from getting OTA updates. Installing a custom ROM will prevent you from it however.

Even so, OTA updates have been known to fail. It was an issue when JI6 came out. If that happens, you'll need Kies or better yet Odin to update.

The updates the dev community use to cook their custom ROM's are from Samsung. They're leaked updates, but they originate from Samsung. It's only a matter of time before the devs get their hands on the 2.3 code and start working it over.

I made my point:
That it's obvious that if Samsung is not providing the update, then people will not be getting the update from Samsung.
But people (including you) keep asking me to clarify, so I have.

You know how to spell but you misspelled ?
What sense does that make?
About as much as telling people that if Samsung is not providing the update, then they will have to go elsewhere.

There are tons of threads about Froyo, so claims of "ruining" this one doesn't make sense either.
