Skype is Back

I remember reading that the TB will no longer be launching with Skype. I see that Skype is once again mentioned on the Verizon website.

That is because if this was released before Feb 28th it wasn't going to have Skype. Now that it's going to be released over 2 weeks after that fact, it will have Skype.

Ah, okay. So as of the 28th, is Skype available on all Verizon Androids? I thought it was a Thunderbolt exclusive.

Skype, the VOIP and text chat software, is available for Android, based on what I can see on their website and in the Android Market website. A new version with video chat capability was supposed to be rolled out with the Bolt. Then that new version was dropped from the feature list. Now, one rumor is that the Bolt will be on hold until video chat over Skype is ready. But the availability of regular Skype doesn't imply anything about the video chat version.

Where on the website are you looking?

It's still removed from this page on the Thunderbolt:
4G LTE Network | Verizon Wireless

Not on this page either:
Verizon Wireless

I see it on this page:
Skype Mobile Phone | Skype Cell Phone | Skype Calling

Was that page taken down previously? Only mentions the BlackBerry Storm2, and I don't think its Skype video chat.

The early demo units of the ThunderBolt showed Skype as integrated into the OS; hope that will be the case. Based on some of the premarketing advertizing pics, I always figured this was planned as a major part of their advertizing of this phone. (Hard to get too excited by Rock Band.)

That's all well and good, but until we have the phone...I dont care

I would have to agree here. Doesn't matter WHAT it comes with if it's NEVER released! It's like saying if you were born in Alaska, you get a check every month for royalties from the oil that is pumped from there. I WASN'T born in Alaska so I don't care. If I were, I'd won't to know where my checks were.

Just my .02...

Thanks for the useful post

LOL, dont take it serious. Everyone is at a point where unless the phone is out, nothing else matters. I think people are tired of threads over little features that dont matter unless the phone is out. At this point everyone cares about the phone and no one really cares if it ships with skype or not. For me personally I will take it without skype anyday. I could care less about video chat on the phone.

It's never left! It was never actually on the phone to begin with, at CES it was just a tech demo (video). On the 28th the finalized firmware was finished that Mabel Skype available.
