Help Skype weird static sound when calling...

I dont have my phone unlocked yet, so I can't tell if it's the phone or Skype, my atrix 4g when ever calling out on Skype all I hear is a horrible loud static noise.

Hi Darklide

That is normal. Skype mic is broken on the Atrix. There is a lot of finger pointing but it's generally understood that AT&T broke it on purpose. We're all hoping that ATT will fix it.

Theres a separate Microphone on the Atrix just for Skype?

Skype isn't moving on this issue. See the post at Strange Noise on Outgoing Calls - Skype Community - Page 4

I have the same screeching geiger counter, making Skype unusable for calls and painful to my ears. I mean painful quite exactly: after getting a shocking blast in my headset my ears hurt. Maybe if we start warning people that Skype will damage their hearing we can get some attention on this.

So far, I have experienced this problem with two carriers in Canada (Rogers, Wind Mobile) on two android phones (Nexus S, Galaxy S 2 i9000). I have tried wifi, 3G and HSPA+ on the GS2 with no change in behaviour. ON the Nexus S the problem went away for a bit when I uninstalled and reinstalled, but that had no effect on my GS2.

Well... I got the latest Skype installed on my Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet (Android) and sure enough... when I call anyone they say it's like I'm sending them audio from a geiger counter. They can hear me through the static and on my end they sound fine ... but it's just a horrible situation for the people I'm calling.

Haven't figured out a way to stop it. I tried plugging in a headset. I'm getting ready to try a bluetooth headset. But we wanted to mainly use it for family to family conversations so a personal bluetooth headset isn't really an option.

Ugh! I'm gonna give ooVoo a try. It's just a pain when everyone has Skype to get them to move to another program. Kinda like everyone it on Facebook and only a few tried out Google+.
