Root skyraider 3.5 sense kernel combinations

I haven't seen too much about this yet. I was wondering what everyone thinks is the best kernel fit for skyraider sense. Battery life vs. Speed, overclocking or undervolting, the usual stuff. I'm especially interested in battery life though. What works for you?
 
I would really appreciate some informaiton on this subject. I have downloaded and am using my first ROM (Skyraider 3.5 Sense) and I would like to add? a kernel.
 
As of now I'm running the adrenalyn kernel for sense (not the custom virtuous one, which was also designed by adrenalyn i believe), and I'm getting solid battery life, a little bit better than stock and its pretty stable, but my quadrant scores are consistantly in the 900s. the charging time is also painstakingly slow, about 5% and hour if im using the phone at all. so im looking for something a tad bit faster. battery life is still very important as well as charging time. I know it seems like i want everything to be perfect, but who doesnt right? I would say priorities are battery life>stability>charging time/speed. I looked into heyitsluo and chad kernels a little but both had very mixed results and seemed really unstable. anyone have any ideas?
 
I am about to try skyraiders for the first time. i will say that chads are always the best for my sense and vanilla roms. i disagree that they are unstable. speed is great. charging time is amazing as well as battery life.

again i am about to flash skyraider now for the first time and will report back with results.

Oh thats great! I had read a couple of threads and most people had said that it was really laggy for skyraider, but atleast theres hope! Are there multiple versions of chad's? if so, which are you using? I just flashed king kernel #6 bfs (which i believe is the one for sense, and cfs is for vanilla) which is overclocked to 1190 mah i think, something like that. people were saying they had great battery life with it, but I was a little skeptical because it's overclocked and I dont see how an overclocked kernel could do better than a stock speed. I'll test it out for a bit and report back, keeping my fingers crossed!

Edit: King Kernel BFS #6 has far surpassed my expectations as of now. I charged my phone to full without bump charging, so in effect the battery level was probably somewhere between 90 and 95 percent (plus I just recently cleared battery stats which made the level drop more quickly for the first few minutes, bad idea). I browsed the internet continuously for about 30 minutes, ran probably 5 or 6 quadrant tests, sent quite a few text messages, and I also use launcherpro, basic things that can tend to drain the battery. While I was browsing, I noticed that battery level dropped much more slowly than it had before, even though I was overclocking; weird, but awesome. The browser seemed slightly faster from what I could tell. I am now at 50% with stock battery (probably would be 55% or so with bump charging) with almost 5:30 of wake time and almost a full 2 hours of up time. I am very impressed. Quadrant scores went up about 100 points on average (now in the 1050 range), but I got it over 1260 at one point using setcpu at max (min and max set at 1190 mah) and overall performance has been good, no lag or anything. Charging time has also seemed to improve over adrenalyn's kernel.

I think my setcpu settings were also beneficial for battery life, and I would recommend these settings for you as well: 1. a profile to underclock when screen is off (mine is 248-384 mhz) 2. a profile to underclock when battery is hot just in case (>39.7 C, 245-578 mhz) 3. SET SCALING TO CONSERVATIVE if it is not already. This is a big one as it will keep the cpu at low speeds when it doesnt need to be at high speeds. I don't think it will slow your phone down at all though when you're doing something that requires high cpu, it should overclock just the same 4. Go to advanced in setcpu and change Down Threshold to a higher number. This will cause your phone to slow its processor based on how much cpu is being used (I set 40%, so it will slow down the processor once 40% or lower is hit). This will allow you to save power when you're using processes dont need much speed from what I understand. If you wanted you could play with the other setting like Up Threshold and Freq Step, I havent really yet, and report back to help the rest of us out! I hope these tips help you.

Over all, I'm very pleased with the kernel. It basically gave me what I had wanted in a kernel, now I just hope this performance becomes consistent.
 
UPDATE- I think I just flashed the kernel. How can I verify its success? How can you tell what kernel is running on your phone?


I downloaded King Kernel 6 and I am ready to flash. How do I flash a kernel??? I'm sorry for such a basic question but I just rooted and I am a bit nervous to experiment. I searched the forum for how to flash a kernel but didn't find an answer on how to do it. I am assuming it is something in ROM manager but what???
 
Dont worry about it I was the exact same way a month ago, but you pick it up quickly. To flash a kernel, you do it the exact same way as a rom but wiping data and stuff is unnecessary, as well as backing up because you can always just flash a new kernel (although you can still back up if you want, just in case). You're right about ROM manager, or you can go into your clockwork recovery as well. I'll give the steps for rom manager:

1. open rom manager and go to "install ROM from sd card"
2. find your kernel (I just made a folder called kernel on my sd card and put it in there, but it will work any where as long as you know where it is)
3. click on the kernel (should be a .zip file) and rom manager will ask you if you want to back up and wipe data and cache(?). I do neither, it doesnt matter for kernels.
4. your phone will boot into recovery, and just let the magic happen! when it reboots you'll have your new kernel. easy as that!

to check your kernel just go into settings, about phone, then software information. should say it in there. hope this helped! let me know if you have any more questions!
 
Can any kernel be used when NOT using a custom rom? I just rooted and havent changed the rom and was looking into a new kernel to boost speed.
 
The past two days I have noticed that my battery life has been terrible; much worse than before I rooted. All that I have done since rooting a few days ago was add SkyRaider 3.5 Sense ROM and then King 6 Kernel. I am going back to recovery to just SkyRaider 3.5 to see if that helps my battery issue.

One of the main reasons that I rooted was to see if I could improve my battery life. Since April, I have played with many different batteries (1300, 1500, 1750, 1800, and 3500) on the Incredible. I have also spent a lot of time changing the setting on my phone and adding and deleting many programs. I can honestly say that the past two days are the worst battery life I have ever had. I'm hoping it was just the kernel combo with the ROM. If it doesn't improve with removing the kernel then I will be trying another ROM.

So far I do like SkyRaider (mainly for the toggles on the notification pull down bar. Can anyone think of something else that I might be doing wrong that caused my battery life to be so bad? I also noticed that my phone is charging much slower than it used to???
 
Skyraider and king #6 worked pretty well for me, but every phone is different. I would just keep trying new kernels. I tried a chad kernel today that he just released on the 23 of December. It charges blazingly fast and so far battery life is quite good. I would give some of chad's a try they're quite good for me so far
 
I can't compare to "STOCK" as it has been SO long since I was there I don't remember what it was like.

I tend to change ROMs like most people do socks. Right now I've got Heyitslou Redemption 2.3 with Chad's incredikernel 2.6.32.27 kernel and I'm having great luck with it. Kings #5 and #6 BFS also work really well. With Skyraider Vanilla 3 and Sense 3.5 I was running Kings without problems. I tried Athena 1.0 for a while with both King and incredikernel and both produced about the same results. (incredikernel scored a little better on quadrant, but that isn't important.) So I'm assuming either would work equally well with 3.5...

Just a side note is I rip out somethings that come in these ROMs, rosie, HTC widgets and apps, etc etc.
 
I've been running chad0989's most recent kernel for the last few days and I liked it. It was very very smooth and fast, the issue was battery life was average. I'm about to flash Heyitslou's #4, I'll let you guys know how it goes
 
so far on SR3.5 im using the Hydra that I had originally after initial root, works well so far.

Not so well anymore, bunch of force closes after a while and batt life was worse. going to try stock that came with SR3.5 for a day
 
I have tried just abotu every ROM and many kernels.. I flashed SkyRaider 3.5 last week and it has been just about AWESOME. I left the kernel alone...

I havent had thi sgood of battery life in several months... I LOVE IT...
 
I am new to rooting and this post has been very beneficial. A couple comments were made about "quadrant tests". Can someone please explain this to me?
 
ive been using chads Incredikerel on SR3.5 for the last few days and its been stable and fast but battery hasnt improved at all.
 
I am on SR 3.5, and I've had good results with both Ziggy's and chad's kernels. It's really a toss up for me to which is better. I can say this though, Ziggy's latest BFS beta for the the DInc is silky smooth, and I am getting great battery life (I use the 1500mah). I went 24 hours between charges yesterday (could actually have gone a little longer as I plugged back in at 24%).

I run both as is, without SetCPU.
 
I went back to SR3.5 with no added kernel (I had used King6). My battery has been much better than it was when I had King6 installed. Like the OP said, every phone is different I guess.
 
I run lean too...
Ok this is def a problem isolated to dolphin, no problems using stock browser.
I tried the other two keyboards in Dolphin with unusable results.
 
I am using SR 3.5 sense and ziggy's kernal in "smatass mode" ,so far its been a great match for me
 
I tried stock and yesterday I tried Hey Lou #6. Today it's Ziggy's kernerl.

Edit: Well I drove to work today with Zigg's Kernel. I drive the same 40 mile highway route and listen to Howard Stern and the way here and back. To say I was impressed with how much battery was left over this morning is an understatment. I suggest you try that one.
