Help skyrocket memory issue?

okay, I'm rather new to the android phones and such, as i broke my iphone 4 when trying to replace my cracked screen (damn apple for gluing the lcd to the glass). anways, when i got my phone, the memory usage was at like 250megs or so idle. now it wont use less than 600 megs, leaving me with 180ish free. this is at idle with no apps running, close all apps, and clear memory gets it down to about 590-620.

is this normal? the phone doesn't seem to lag or anything, i just dont like having all my ram being used by apparently nothing.

Yeah, that's why you don't try to save money. Always buy the complete screen assembly.

I'm not sure what's going on in your phone. Mine has 329MB used and 1.6GB free with the only active app being messenging and without doing the clear memory function which usually closes down about 20 application temporarily. After that, the memory useage reports the same thing.

After clearing background processes, ram manager tells me I have 385/784MB, but all those (usually about 20) processes come back very quickly.
