Skyrocket - The Infuse Killer?

So a family member has finally gotten his upgrade chance and went to AT&T.

I told him to get the Galaxy SII, but the sales rep told him to just wait one day for the Galaxy SII Skyrocket. He said that it will be an upgraded Galaxy SII with a screen-bump up to 4.5 inches.

He also said it will be the option for people looking for big phones (i.e. Infuse).

Sounds to me like AT&T's plan for replacing the Infuse 4G... It's not been very long since the Infuse debuted, but I feel like the one thing that kept AT&T customers wanting an Infuse 4G over the Galaxy SII was that the screen was 4.5 inches. Now, with Galaxy SII internals (actually even slightly better) along with the Infuse screen, I don't see any reason why anyone would buy the Infuse 4G (other than pricing).

Also sounds like Infuse has lost its niche... I mean, it's always been that "4.5 inch display" phone, but no longer :(

This makes me worry how AT&T will follow up with support for the Infuse, since the Skyrocket is shipping with Gingerbread and a promised Ice Cream Sandwich update.

(In my opinion though, I think the Infuse is way sexier in design than this newcomer).

well, infuse has been out since when? like may? typical lifespan for a feature phone. maybe on the short side, but not bad. so it's going to be better, so i s just about every other phone coming out. at best we can just hope infuse gets gingerbread and i think that'll be it. it's not made to run ICS. i'm sure it could, and do it just fine but you have to stay within a reasonable boundary of what the phone was designed to work with for best performance. and as usual, anyone wanting anything more can root and try a different ROM. this will be the lifecycle of cell phones for some time.

but yeah, the infuse is a really good looking phone. if you're *stuck* with one for another year and a half, you'll have a nice phone for a year and a half. no worries ;)

I like the Infuse a lot, since I am a bit of a Samsung fanboy, but honestly the infuse is not the same tier of phone as the Skyrocket. Hardware specs are really not even comparable....the infuse is running captivate specs....the Skyrocket is dual core. Did the Infuse even get Gingerbread yet? I still like the phone a bunch but the SGS2 and the Skyrocket are in a separate class. Unless you want the latest and most powerful none of hat matters as long as you like it and it performs well for you.

To me the infuse was never a high end phone. It feels like samsung just brought it out to bridge the gap between the cRaptivate and the GS2.

Don't get me wrong it IS a good phone but its not the phone that everyone is drooling over.

I think that the infuse has a niche, just like every other phone, besid the fact oem's know that people will trade in. People don't know what they want, marketers have to tell them.

I thought about it the other day and, THE INFUSE DOESNT SAY "INFUSE", ANYWHERE ON IT. From 4 feet away u can't tell what kind of 4.5" SAMMY it is. I'm happy. I'm ahead of the game in the 4.5" field. When its time to trade up, if I do, ill have tha latest, over the sky rockets and runnymeades. Lol

Actual GS2 I think is a better phone, it does not have that snapdragon fail processor. The Skyrocket's Snapdragon is a cheap processor, sounds better then the exynos of the regular one at 1.5, but even this high it does not even get close to the performance of the 1.2 exynos. I love the bigger screen size, but the development will prob be worse then the infuse lol haha.
