Sleeping or off

I power my Desire down at night. Sometimes I forget if I have powered down so the only way to check is to press the power button. If I have switched off the unit then powers up and goes through it's start up procedure before I can switch off again. It would be handy to know if it is in sleep mode or off without pressing the power button. Is this possible ?

Only way that comes to mind is developing a good memory, or always leave it in sleep mode.

There are some methods to use the back key to wake up your device, it might be worthwhile to search for that.

There's an app called no lock that allows you to unlock the screen with any of the hardware keys - this would do the job you're wanting
