"Slide to Unlock" lag improvement

I thought the cause of the lockscreen lag was Motorola's POS slide-to-unlock animation/method.

I'm not a fan of the new unlock slider myself, and it's still laggy! Come on Motorola, it's just a little unlocker.

It may be the underclocking that Moto's implemented.

I'm rooted and use SetCPU and one of the options is to underclock the cpu when the screen is OFF. I noticed that when I underclocked it to 300mHz, the slide to unlock would be laggy when I turned on the screen. However, if I waited 2-3 sec after I turned the screen on, it would be smooth. Maybe it just takes some time for the chip to speed up.

Just for giggles, I set the "Screen off" to 1gHz min and there was no lag. If it is the case, then Moto's sacrificed smooth unlocking for better battery management with underclocking.

Still doesn't seem like you should need 1GHz to unlock a phone. Lock 2.0 works just fine without changing any settings. I just don't use it because I don't like the look of it either.

I guess I'm just a hard man to satisfy when it comes to unlocking smartphones.

^Lock 2.0 huh... I will have to try this.

U know what....I forgot all about this...I forgot about SetCPU profiles since coming to the X.

And a always go and read this nice overclocking thread for the Droid:

OverClocking 101 - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

That thread applies to the Droid only. I dont what would happen trying some of that on the X. Well, what we can try since its not a custom kernel.

He mentioned that the phone does Screen Off better in Froyo. I forgot I used to have my Screen Off profile min higher than norma sometimesl.

I will have to try this out.

There's already an overclock thread for the DX here on this forum. It can be overclocked just fine afaik. It's around here somewhere in the Root related board. Look around for it.

You know what's sad? My wife has the original Droid and on 2.1 and on 2.2 her unlock is smooth as butter. I have never seen it hiccup at all.

I use widgetlocker and it's super fast to unlock. No lag whatsoever. Even with the stock android unlock screen. But all of them were super fast. Sense, iPhone, Android, WidgetLocker.

I can't use the standard unlock screen anymore. It's the shitz. Slow, lags, and that vibrate is annoying.

So, I am going with WL or no slide to unlock.

I still use WL myself now even with all it's bugs.

I've been using Goto as a replacement lock screen and it's smooth as butter. It's not free but it was worth the $1.99 or whatever I paid for it. Allows you to unlock to specific apps like phone, email, text. Not much functionality beyond that but I like it.

Ok, maybe I'm delusional from the 101 degree weather here in Charlotte, or maybe I actually did see a decrease in the amount of lag in the "Slide to Unlock" home screen.

I disabled the Screen Lock and enabled the Security Lock under "Location & Security Settings" under "Settings". After deciding I wasn't as happy with this feature as I thought I might be, I went back to the original settings and it appears that the lag is not as evident in the "Screen Lock" now.

It's worth a shot.

Thanks for this! And yes, this heat here in Charlotte is taking at toll on us all!
