Help Slider/touchscreen issue

I am just curious if anyone has any thoughts on this issue. My touch screen has been acting up, like jumping around like its not sure exactly where I am touching. This is most noticible where you are touch dragging, like in menus, maps and swype. The funny thing the issue is not existent with the slider open, also I noticed sliding it back hard makes it work for a few hours.

I am guessing I have a damaged ribbon that will just get worse. Any chance for a cheap fix? I am so happy with 1.2ghz and UD 1 I really don't want a new phone.

Ok, so I thought it was just a slider issue. However, it appears the problem also only occurs while plugged in.

So..

Plugged in slider closed - Touch screen jumps around
Plugged in slider open - Touch screen is fine

On battery power slider open/closed - touch screen is fine

I wonder how being plugged in correlates to the touch screen jumping around when touched
