Slight problem with Whatsapp shortcut

I have been using Whatsapp for a long time without problems, everything has been working great. I never bothered to try the option of creating a shortcut to chat with a contact, today I noticed this option and clicked 'create shortcut.' It placed an icon on the main screen of that person's photo, a shortcut to chat with that person. I tried dragging it down from the upper left hand corner where it had been placed by default, to move it closer to the center, when the image suddenly disappeared from under my finger and also from the desktop. I had NOT dragged it to the trash can.

If I try to re-create the same shortcut in Whatsapp, now it says 'shortcut already exists.' So I cannot get it back.

I have noticed similar behavior before where sometimes if I am dragging icons or shortcuts on a screen, if I don't drop it in just the right location it will disappear instead. Normally if it's a shortcut to an app, I can just easily make the shortcut over again, but in this case I can't.

Phone: Motorola Triumph, not rooted Froyo 2.2 There is no OTA update available and I don't want to root this phone as it is functioning bug free currently.

Have you tried clearing cache and data on the app? Do so in the main settings in applications app manager, Uninstall and reinstall?

That was going to be the next step, but I didn't need to. I had checked all the folders on the desktop and it was not in any of them, however after shutting the phone down to charge it and rebooting, today the icon mysteriously appeared in one of the desktop folders.... bizarre!
