This is my first smartphone/Droid and I am getting pretty frustrated with it. I've had it for nearly a year now and it seems that it's worse since I moved back to San Diego (from Oregon). I was able to get it replaced, but still no better. Even as I type right now the words are behind. My signal is fine..it's the 3G that seems to not always be available. Plus, the GPS Navigation does not even find the satellite signal until I've already been driving. The driving directions aren't even right when I try to use them while the navigation is still searching. I'm about ready to throw this thing out the window! Someone please help!

Is your phone rooted? I think that would be my first suggestion if you feel comfortable doing so. You will be able to overclock/increase the speed of the garbage processor on this phone. Have you cleared your browser's history recently?(Go into "menu" with your browser open and go into "bookmarks" and "clear history" is all the way on the top right) I have done this in the past and it has sped things up for me. Rebooting your phone also should help increase your speed. As far as your GPS/Navigation I cant really suggest anything there, but I'm sure someone else can guide you in the right direction. First off Root your phone and install a custom Rom, most are faster than stock and are very reliable. I use velocity 1.1 which will allow you to overclock. The gps is better and faster, although after you flash velocity it will take just as long to lock onto a satellite, but the next time will be much, much faster... Just my two cents...

You honestly dont need to overclock. Just root if you are out of warranty and have some kind of insurance so you dont have a paperweight. Once rooted get a custom recovery, velocity 1.1, remove bloatware, and download an app called "autostarts" its worth the dollar autostarts is like msconfig is for windows....shuts off services that are not needed....DO NOT shut off system services and processes without research...otherwise you could not have a phone. Hope this helps...

Also as for the gps problems...gps fix is in the market that should help. The ally is an awesome especially since the devs are geniuses!

I agree with the others. This phone was worse than useless until I installed Velocity 1.0. Now I'm on 1.1 and loving it.

I wonder what Verizon or LG have been doing to this phone since last year. I got my Ally about a month after they were released. I never had problems like that. I wonder if people aren't loading them up with apps until there's no memory left or if there was a problem with later builds?

Granted, I still flashed Velocity 1.1 but that wasn't because I had to.

Link should take you to GPS Status & Toolbox. Whenever you need your GPS, run this first. It'll get your GPS locked in within seconds, and then you just launch whatever you need (Maps, Nav) and you should be able to start using it just about immediately. It's transformed the way I think about GPS, to be honest, because I used to expect to wait at least five minutes or longer before I could get a usable GPS lock.

I do this same thing. For some reason once you get the GPS locked in GPS Status it will lock very quickly in other apps like Latitude or Maps.

Mine is rooted, but this next suggestion may help you even on an unrooted Ally. I had the same issue with serious LAG while typing on this and any other forum from the Ally. I tried several browsers and found only ONE that does not have any lag while typing into a forum post -
Opera Mobile. It also seems to be faster than the stock browser when loading web pages.

Rooting would get you the ability to move many apps to your SD card, which also helps speed up the Ally. Opera is a sizable app, so needs more space than most others. Opera Mini 'used to' work well for me and has a much smaller footprint. But their recent updates made it flaky and unreliable.
