Help Slow 4g LTE

Startech

Newbie
I rooted my phone and installed the TrevE mod for hot spot. At first, the data speeds were impressive (especially after chucking the Optimus 3g, LOL). Then about 10 days later, I noticed the data speeds as bad as the 3g. However, when I wifi, the speeds are fine. So I thought it was the 4g service, and called VM to see if I had been throttled. They confirmed I was not and suggested I pull the battery and they would reset my account. Well, that did not help. I am on really slow 4g, so searching for an answer is excruciating.

What should my next step be as far as diagnosing and finding the problem? TIA

Are you on aosp or tw?

For me on my s3, I actually get significantly faster 4g speeds on aosp than touchwiz. Pulling close to 20mb average on aosp

To #2 I can't call 20mb/s bad 4g

In my experience, it has always been a lack of reception due to lack of towers that resulted in low speeds, as well as migrating 4G test signals.

My 4g sucked while they were upgrading my area. I now get about 20mbps down, 8mbps up.

I do find 4g is more signal sensitive than 3g. Low signal or obstructions affect speed pretty bad. I live .5 mile from tower but it's very wooded so speeds kinda suck. If I get clear sight of tower speeds are killer

Then you're on TouchWiz (Samsung's interface). I'd recommend CM but they haven't got 4G working yet ;) Try a different geographic location that you know for sure has 4G

I like my speed :D
