Help Slow 4G speeds?

Make sure the speed test app is connecting to a server near you and not something odd like california

Moved to VZW Galaxy Nexus Sub Forum
Reason: Topic is specific to the VZW model of the Galaxy Nexus
Thank you for your understanding.

I'm in NYC where, supposedly, many people are getting wicked speeds.

But on Speedtest I'm only seeing 3-8 Mbps down and 2-5 Mbps up or so whereas I see people clocking like 6-10 times this amount.

Here is some network info: http://i.imgur.com/4WtZA.png

What's going on?

odd that you're only getting those speeds considering your signal.
did you run multiple tests back to back?

also, how did you get that detailed network info? (sorry if that's a noob question :o )

Nobody else has his problem?

I can't speak to NYC speeds, but I've long felt that my 4G speeds were pretty bad compared to what I see others reporting.

I was planning on posting this in one of the data connection threads, but since you are asking I'll post it here too. I have a trouble ticket with VZW for my data issues. I ran a dozen speed tests today and called VZW to ask that my results get noted with my other trouble report. I'm sick of the denial I'm getting from VZW about the data issues and this device.

So, to your question about 4G speeds. I ran 12 speed tests with the speedtest.net app on my GNex consecutively. I ran the test from inside my office at work in downtown Clearwater, Florida. I was using the Tampa, Florida server in the app. Nothing got resolved during my call to Tier 2 support. All the guy could do, after putting me on hold, was tell me that they are aware of the reception issues with Galaxy Nexus and that there is an update "coming in March" to specifically address the reception issue. Take it for what it's worth.

My Speedtest.net results (the last result was from a different day at a different location):

Last night at home where I have 2 bars and the occasional flicker to 1 bar I got 14.32 meg down and 3.14 meg up. Do bars really mean anything?

I've gotten 48meg down and 6 meg down on the LTE network in different parts of the city on the same day, with the same signal strength in both locations.

Connection strength =/= Speed

I'm in Tampa, getting similar results and was told the same thing by VZW.... I don't put any faith in their update release date (estimation) but it is odd that I see such great speeds from some people... I thinik it depends on your market. The Tampa Bay area seems to have a horrible 4G system.
