Help slow internet and bad signal.

First day with the phone(picked it up last night and let it charge.) and I am seeing very bad download speeds. With the speedtest app it barely pushes 150kb/s in places my hero would get over 1.5mb/s. Its very noticible when I'm browsing, as pages take longer to load, even without any flash content.

Also, my signal seems to be worse than my hero everywhere I go, which is bothersome. Hopefully this can addressed in updates. I'm loving this phones hardware and want to keep it.

Also, I set plugins to be on demand but flash content seems to load anyway, did I miss a setting. Battery life has been pretty bad, but I've been using it a lot so blah.

I'm sure you tried updating your PRL and profile right? Sorry to hear that you're not having any luck with it.

Try giving Sprint a call and complaining, they can try doing some stuff. It may just need some time too.

I'm hoping to pick one up later today!

Seems a few of us have had this problem, just call sprint customer care and tell them you are having poor data speeds. They will walk you through a data profile refresh and it should help. Write down your MSL when they give it to you for future reference. It will be the six digit code they give you after they have you do ##3282#

And, 1.5 is pretty nice...I have to be standing under a tower in Gainesville to hit
1.

I'm going to call sprint tonight, I didn't think factory reset though, lol.

I really like this phone.

Hey, we chased a lot of hokey pokey chicken dances when the Evo first came out, including after the first update, all the while not paying attention to the quiet ones saying, I did a factory reset and don't have these problems.

I've come to believe that between HTC and Sprint, they get a little something maybe tangled in the cache/data areas, right out of the box.

So, with new, last thing you'd think is a factory reset - but it's helped others with the cousin phone.

For future reference, how does one do a factory reset? Not a familiar area to me.

Factory reset was the first thing I did in my case, it wasn't until I got the profile refresh that my data unborked. But yeah on the HTC/Sprint thing...my hero required the same treatment.

On an Evo with 2.2, it's also -

home screen -> Menu -> Settings -> SD & phone storage ... last option.

If somebuddy would verify for the record that applies to the Shift, I'd be mighty grateful.

(We're still debating whether to get one at my house or not.... I'm saying yes, and WifelyMon is eyeballing me like I'm trying to replace her phone so I can tinker with it - and plus - she's right.)

Yeah, the Shift does have that option as well.

What does she have? So far I think it's a pretty solid device ;)

She's got a Moment that she's in a love/hate relationship with. I almost got her to the Epic and was met with - "OK, wait - you went from Samsung to HTC and I'm going to go from Samsung to Samsung. Sure, uh huh, ok." (I had a Moment - we were twins. Pretty good phone when it's not acting up.)

So - I start pitching the Shift. She takes my Evo, and now it's - "You know, I've come to like typing on glass."

But her hands are so much smaller than mine, and this Shift is so very impressive in its own right, I'm hoping to sway her that way, whether she uses the hard qwerty anymore or not.

And by sway her that way, means to get what she wants with due consideration, not manipulate into what I want. Thought I'd best get out front on that difference!

It came down to the epic or the shift for me. I love pretty much everything about the epic, except its battery life. Granted I've only had the shift for about 24 hours, its got to have better battery life.

On the phone with Sprint right now, they claimed it was a service outage in my area, even though I was getting the bad speeds at home and work. That was 5 hours ago, had the bad speeds before it happened.

Now they are trying different things, seems they wont fork over the MSL until its a last resort.

Loving the keyboard, plays all my games perfectly. The bad signal thing has been murdering my battery though, so I can't gauge battery life.

That bites that they are giving the runaround on it. Lady gave it to me within two minutes of explaining the problem.

Unfortunately the easy Hero method of obtaining your MSL doesn't seem to work here :(

Many have found that just calling and asking for the MSL works - and if they won't give it, then just call back, get another rep.

Many Evo owners have reported that that's true.

They have never given me a run around like this before and its making me mad.

This page took 3 minutes to load, lol.

Quick question, is the MSL on a per phone basis or per account? I have the MSL for my hero.

There's talk it's tied to the ESN, and isn't easily derivable from that.

Did you try the brother-in-law lie?

"Hi, I've got a new Evo Shift 4G, it won't load web pages. My brother-in-law got one with the same problem and he said he called you guys and you had him do some kinda ##DATA# trick. Can you do that for me, my phone isn't working?"
