Root slow wifi hotspot

Hey guys I rooted my evo 4g and was excited to use the hotspot app to supply wifi to my HP touch pad running cynogen mod 9 ... although it connect s it is very slow and I can't even open Netflix which is the main reason I wanted the hotspots... is there something I am doing wrong when the hotspots is active the ion in the notification bar says 3g.... veeeeeerrrrrrryyyyyyy sssssslllloooooowwwww. Help lol
