Root small gingervillain/kernel question

G'day,
after running with Leedroid for a few weeks and liking it, I fancied a change and a dabble into a non-sense ROM so I went with Gv 1.5 last night.

On seeing somewhere it was ok to do so, I also flashed the ''6.1se.1-HAVS-AXI-128-CFS'' kernel before booting up for the first time. When I did boot up I couldn't get any wifi signals nor my own, a few reboots to no effect later I just reflashed the ROM on its own - no bother now.

Is the kernel included with GV 1.5 decent enough or are there improvements to be had out there? If so, am I right in thinking I saw somewhere it was a matter of trying different ones until a fully functioning one is found?

Also, really liking the GV ROM but tell me this ....... on the lock screen, below battery percentage, it states ''belongs to'' - how do I edit this? been looking everywhere but it has eluded me.

Thanks in advance

The stock kernel on GV is fine for me.

I've noticed allot of people using the EViollet kernels which can be found in the Villain set up,think they're better on battery life, but as I said the stock kernel battery life is still good enough for my needs.

Edit: Curiosity just got the better of me,installed one of the EViollet kernels :)

i had exactly the same problem, you have to make sure it's the gv kernel, and not the froyo version as they're coded differently (thanks dan for that one)

I'm interested if either of you two take advantage of sysfs with the eviollet or GV kernels?

Its where on the HAVS (and SVS) kernels (eviollet wrote this but now on GV) you can change the minimum and maximum voltages for each CPU frequency. They start at 900mV.

If you download terminal emulator from the market then copy this command

Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/vdd_levels_havs

It will give you current voltages.

I dropped 128,000 and 245,000 to minimum 875. Makes a bit of difference

@Casual Pete .... cheers for input, will probably run with it for a few days and monitor. Be obliged if You would post when You have formed an opinion of the kernel You flashed :)

@shauny13 ..... thanks for link, will try it in a few days.

Anyone any input on the "belongs to" thingy?

Thanks
