*SMALL LEAK* Olympus AT&T bound?

Hi all, I don't have much of a history on these forums, and I have no links to give you or proof, so yeah I guess you can either choose to believe this or not... I wouldn't blame ya if you dont! ;)

Anyway, yesterday I was walking through a big shopping mall, and I passed an AT&T mini vendor (those little shops that carriers set up like hot-dog stands - is there a name for those?). The employee behind the counter was doing something on a Nexus S (which is NOT an at&t phone; the gsm bands work but not 3g, so perhaps he was saving money by not paying for a data contract, or just has multiple phones and swaps the SIM cards around), and generally gave me the impression he is a tech geek.

Anyway, when I pass one of these stands and there aren't any other customers in line, I usually ask the employee a quick question about something unannounced in the hope of getting a small leak (not that these employees are privy to tons of secrets, but they may see a thing or two every once in a while that isn't released to the public, like a SKU or something). Lately, I have been asking the question "when can I buy the motorola olympus" and the response is either "I don't know" or "I have never heard of it."

However, THIS time he said "Q1 of next year," without hesitating for a second. I then asked if it would be January and he said he didn't know for sure but that it was "possible." Then I leaned into him on specs, and he clammed right up, possibly realizing he shouldn't be talking about this phone, or (more likely) had no idea what any of the specs were.

So take this for what you will. Not really groundbreaking or certain news, but I'm on AT&T so I really hope this phone makes it to my network. If you're curious, this was at park city center in Lancaster, PA.

I am pretty sure your cell phone hot dog stands are called kiosks and the January release has been a rumor for a while. Hopefully they at least announce it at CES next month. Which I am sure they will with all the news of the new HTC and LG phones. So let's keep our fingers crossed.

Kiosk! That's right, thanks. And yeah, about one more week until CES starts... man I have been awaiting this phone since it was first leaked. I have never been so anxious for a new gadget to arrive. Hopefully it meets my (increasingly growing) expectations.

I dunno why but I really think Moto is going to do this one right, on the hardware side anyway. Rumors aside, google picked them to show off Honeycomb, so they must have been doing well with their new hardware. Also I think there have been some let-down among the big moto devices of 2010, and I'm sure Moto reads the reviews. The Droid is what saved Motorola, and they must be irked by HTC's growing popularity. And lastly, assuming this phone is AT&T bound, this will be motorola's chance to show iPhone customers what a high-end motorola smartphone is all about.

I am waiting/depending on Motorola to release the Olympus for AT&T. AT&T is the carrier that my family uses and this time around I'll be upgrading to a smartphone that isn't the iPhone. I hope that I won't be forced to go with Windows Phone 7, and with the Olympus coming out in Q1 of 2011, it will still be a new phone by the time I get to upgrade. And I am stoked to have Android! Plus the specs look very impressive for the Olympus.

Out of curiosity, why do you want to switch over to Android?

Good luck, and I think you'll be very glad you made the switch - wait until you see how deeply you can customize the UI, and you'll be amazed at how many apps are free.

I know I want to switch because I'm bored with the iPhone. Even with jailbreaking iOS is just meh to me now. It's smooth and stable but I'm sick of the same thing over and over. Since 2007 iOS hasn't changed it's look and I hate having to rely on jailbreaking to do what I want. Also the notifications are the worst of any smartphone OS. I'll keep my iPhone 4 and use it as an iPod Touch but my phone will probably change.

Here are some Specs I found... I do not know how true they are..

I have no idea where PDAdb.net gets their info, but they actually have a fantastic track record. And when they don't know something, they leave it blank instead of making stuff up, which is good to see. Also, they have some affiliation with XDA, and that gives it good credibility in my book!

The amount of RAM seems perhaps too good to be true, and how do they know how much will be accessible on a product that isn't even completed, at least in terms of software?? They had the 1024 RAM figure up since the beginning of December!

I hope it's true, though... the biggest RAM in a smartphone I know of is the desire HD, which has like 750 or so, so this + tegra 2 would be amazing! :)
