Help Smart Dial Without Area Code???

On my Eris I was able to type the first 3 digits (prefix) and the correct contacts would show for me to chose from.

I try that now on the TB and I get zero results, but if I type the area code first then the prefix, the correct contacts show up for me to chose from.

Is there anyway to make Smart Dial ignore the area code so I can just dial the prefix and get my choices?

I know what you're saying, like if a number is 123-456 you want to just dial 456 and have all the choices come up instead of putting in 123 as well - I tried that I'm actually surprised it didn't work. As far as I know you have to either type the area, or search by letter. I went into call settings to see if there was any way around this but I didn't find anything. Even if you go into phone, hit menu and then tips it says you can quickly filter contacts by name or number for example, find a phone number that starts with "245" by typing 245, but it doesn't mention that it needs to be the prefix and not the area code.

Yeah, I have exhausted all attempts at trying to make it work right, short of removing the area code from all of my contacts. Which would suck when I go out of town and want to call home by just hitting the wife's name.

I think I know of a fix, although depending on how many contacts you have the fix could take a very long time.

Go in and edit the contacts and add another cell number and don't use the area code for that one. I haven't tried it yet, but I will here shortly.

The easiest way to do this would be in GMAIL on a PC and not on your phone.

Just tested it, and it does in fact work.

Have an idea what I'm going to be doing most of the day today.
