smart mode v performance -- battery

basically i normally use performance, the way i see it i would rather have a phone that works awesome and lasts 7 hours then a phone that lasts 10 hours and isint as fast.

also, i just read some of the battery saver tips and it looks seems that having it in smart mode for the last hour in use the back gets a little warm from the battery.

so what's the core differences in the 2 modes?

Smart mode benchmarks the same, so dunno what the point is in keeping it in performance mode except to drain your battery faster. The phone doesn't require a 1ghz processor to be in standby and that's basically what your doing (if I understand what I've read correctly) by keeping it in performance mode.

I have the leaked Froyo installed and smart mode isn't even listed anymore. It now has a maximum battery setting, a nighttime saver mode, performance mode, and the option for a custom mode. Not sure if the "official" Froyo will be the same, but figured it was worth mentioning.

Interesting. What is the default setting? Any idea how Maximum battery and Performance mode differ? What's configurable in Custom mode? thx much.

My understand of this feature is that it basically controls the times that it's able data syncs when it's not connected to a charger? Maximum Battery stops syncing after 15 mins of inactivity regards of the time and dims the display, Nighttime stops syncing after 15 mins of inactivity during off peak hours and resume after your press any buttons, and Performances has no restrictions.

In custom mode you can config off-peak hours, and change the timer of inactivity to turn off sync during peak and off-peak hours, and also change the display brightness.

Is there more to this?

I leave mine on saver and it works fine for me. I'm a bit of an over user of the device but I also need it to last for the majority of the day. So it's a real toss up.

As far as SFWB's post about the leaked Froyo. Where did you get it? I'd love to give it a try since it doesn't look like Moto is givinig Froyo to us anytime soon. thanks

Nope, I think you pretty much covered it.
