I've had an Android phone with almost every carrier. One thing that really surprises me is that fact that most of the over the phone reps have absolutely no clue about anything technical about their devices. Does anyone have a reputable sales person that they use @ Verizon? (Buying over the phone is waaaaaay cheaper).

Most the reps I have talked to are okay on being up to date on the basics of phone but once I start trying to get them to discuss rooting they get quiet...not sure if they don't know about it or aren't allowed to talk about it...Had the manager at one of my local stores just walk away from me in the middle of a conversation because I brought up AF and rooting

I deleted the Verizon rep's name and number for his protection. This kind of thing could make more problem for them than we mean, when we mean to be helpful. Please refrain from posting other's personal information without their consent.

There's a rep at my local corporate store who's pretty knowledgeable. He admitted to me that he had rooted his Bionic and installed an ICS ROM. Even let me play with it for a few minutes. Although he did admit that officially they are not supposed to discuss subjects that void the manufacturer's warranty. Still pretty cool, though. Guess we got lucky, as it seems this type of rep is in short supply at VZW.

the guy i talked to about rooting hadnt heard of AF (yes i recommended it). i believe he said he got is stuff from xda.
The guy who was helping me (not the manager) said "OMG you are Yeahha on AF can I have your autograph..."
He actually told me he liked Android Central better...or that is what happened in my head
I frequented there when I first got my OG Droid, and was hungry for any and all Android information I could read. After a short period of time, their forums didn't appeal to me at all.

The last sales person I talked to at my local store was clueless. I went in just to look at phones around January and really was hoping the One X was coming to VZW. When he asked me what I was looking for I told him and he had no idea what it was. I also said something about hearing it was GSM and I knew VZW used CDMA and he looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. Very disappointing...

All my experiences save one were with friendly, helpful, but less than knowledgeable on more than the standard specs CSRs. The guy I bought my Thunderbolt from knew his stuff, but wouldn't discuss rooting.

I've found the reps in the store to be hit or miss. The older reps usually don't know squat, whereas the younger ones are pretty knowledgeable.

Guess it depends in how comfortable they are with you. The local reps all talk rooting phones with me, including the managers. Heck, I've even rooted several of their personal phones for them and jail broke a few IPhones.
