Smartphone connection to TV help

I have a HTC One S & I have just bought an MHL to HDMI adapter.

I connect it up & everything comes up on my TV screen, except it flashes on & off every 5 to 10 seconds.

Does anyone know how I can rectify this problem as I feel so close yet I can't quite get there.

My TV is a Sharp LC-32SH130K.

Did you power the adapter with your phone's charger?
