Smartphone Newbie

Newbie
Hi there.
I recently (about a month ago) got my first-ever smartphone, an LG VS840 4G. I know that my phone is really a "beginner" smartphone, but I am absolutely blown away by it :). I LOVE it!
I had no concept of how amazing these devices are and the sheer number of the things it can do. Now I have no idea how I ever lived without it LOL. I have never loved a piece of technology the way I love this little phone (which I affectionately call "Baby" LOL).
I know I haven't even scratched the surface of its potential yet, and that's part of why I joined this forum. I found the place while searching for tips on using the Google Sky Map app (which I also love) and I thought it would be a good idea to join here in order to learn more about my Baby.
I am very eager to start reading here (before I post a bunch of beginner questions LOL).
Please excuse my ineptitude and lack of general smartphone skills :). And I apologise in advance for the way I gush over this amazing little device which I am so deeply infatuated with :).

Hey there and welcome to Android Forums. :)

Glad to have ya here!

I was the same exact way, I didn't get what all the fuss was about for smart phones until I got my first which was the att galaxy s (high end device at the time) a few days after release day.

Now I can't imagine myself going without a smart phone lol. I had to do it for a few months a year ago, that was torture :D

By the way, it's better to ask "beginner questions", it's how you gain knowledge of things :)

If you haven't found the forum for your device yet, feel free to follow the link below

If we can assist you with anything, don't hesitate to ask. :)

Thank you DS!
I can tell already that I'm going to be spending a lot of time on this forum :). The sheer volume of information here is incredible! I have so much to learn, and I suspect that the more I learn the more questions I will have (if that makes any sense).
Thank you so much for that link! Just glancing there I wanted to read every thread LOL. I'll get to that shortly.
I am very excited to hopefully read up on the multitude of apps available. So far I've only downloaded free ones and I am just astounded at what I've found so far. There truly is an app for everything!
I'm sure I'll be posting my beginner questions soon, but I'll bet that just by reading the threads on my phone's special section here (it's SO cool that you guys have that!!!) I will learn a lot of stuff that's new to me.
I managed to get a "private" Andriod Phone class at the local Verizon store because I was the only person to show up that day. I'd had the Baby for a couple weeks and I had pages of questions written down. The guy teaching the class was awesome. Very patient with me, yet extremely enthusiastic about everything. He was actually WAY better and helpful than the salesman who sold me the phone.
But it will be absolutely great to have this forum, right here at my fingertips.
My deepest condolences on having to live without a smartphone LOL. I don't know how you did it. I think that if I was forced to choose I would give my computer up before my phone, because the Baby is virtually the world's smallest laptop IMHO.
Okay, I'm off to check out the phone-specific sub-forum!

Welcome to the forums :)

Hopefully DS has properly assisted you with your device questions. If you have anymore feel free to message us.

Thanks for joining :D

Thank you, Digital Controller.
I think the first thing I need to work on is learning the vocabulary here. I've never been very techie and I'm fairly unfamiliar with many of the words and terminology. Baby steps :).

We each have our own pace when it comes to learning about technology so don't feel pressured by others here. I know the staff will try and work with your pace if you have any issues.

We pride ourselves on giving members the best experience possible. :)

Again enjoy your time here :D

Just take them baby steps :)

In soon time I'm sure you'll be able to guide other members when they have questions/problems with their device.

I was the same way when I joined, not too tech savvy (still not all that much :p) but I've gained a good bit of knowledge in my nearly year here at AF.

My door is always open if you need help :)

So far you're doing great :). I'm finding the forum to be well-organized, easy to use and absolutely loaded with information. From what I've seen thus far the members appear to be friendly and the mod team very knowlegable and helpful :).
I can't believe I never thought to look for an Android forum before now. I spend a tremendous amount of time on a falconry forum and I know how invaluable forums like this can be.
One question; I've noticed that many users here don't post their service provider. Is there a specific reason for that? The only reason I didn't include mine on my profile was seeing so many members with "Not Provided" on their profiles.
Thanks again!

The service provider in the profile is actually a relatively new feature, im sure some either doesn't know it's there or just hasn't got to it yet. :)
