Smartwatch suggestions

Clementine_3

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm half thinking of getting a some sort of smart watch for my sister so am really just looking for reviews/opinions from those that have them. I don't even know what features I'd consider so, please, just throw stuff around :)
Pebble?
Sony?

I've got a Sony SW2. It's just an extension display to the handset(s); displays notifications for Gmail, Hangouts, Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp etc, acts as a remote for my music player and camera, accept/reject calls, access calendar info etc and does the job it's designed for well. Best of all, it works with all three of my Android 4.x handsets.

It's not the daintiest device though; much less bulky than the Gear but still with a larger face than conventional timepieces. I get around three days use from a 100% charge before it demands recharging.

I'm very pleased with my Pebble, which has about the same set of features as Slug's SW2. I think the Big Difference between the two (at least from a hardware perspective) is that the SW2 has a color touchscreen, while the Pebble has a monochrome high-contrast energy-efficient almost-e-paper LCD and big solid buttons. As a result, I routinely get at least 6+ days of use out of my Pebble before I have to charge it. Really they are both great options (and cost about the same), and it probably comes down to user preference.

The Verge has a nice review of the SW2 written by a Pebble user, so that's probably a good opportunity to compare the two: Sony SmartWatch 2 review | The Verge

I'm thinking about dipping my toes into the smartwatch market.

Ideally I'd like something very much like the samsung gear fit (fitness tracker WITH heart rate monitor) but since I have a Nexus 5 that device won't natively support my phone :(

I have yet to find another smartwatch that does everything the ger fit does. There is the Basis which seems like an excellent fitness tracker but without notifications (so not really a smartwatch).

The pebble steel and toq both look cool to me but neither have the heartrate monitor.

Is anyone here using a smartwatch that they think is awesome?

I might have to hold off a bit and see if something more to my liking comes out in the future.

Sony is stylish and classic. It doesn't look childish or a watch that belongs to my grandpa.

Id wait now that google have (or are going to?) release a smart watch API.
Things should get interesting now :)

Nice!! :D

Mind you bulky wrist devices that play music are not exactly a new idea.

Circa 1975, Aitron wrist transistor radio from Hong Kong. ...and I do remember these.

EDIT

There was another variant of this thing that had time and date functionality as well...

The first smart-watch? ...and the screen is askew.

The shirt does though :p jk

Om...nomnomnom... It is from Esprit collection, and I actually have three of them, this one, blue one and green one... And it is a slim fit - it definitely wont fit on my grandpa!

:D

Still quite a lump by the looks of things, will it fit under the buttoned shirt cuff? Which seems to be a problem with most of these smartwatches, unless one gets shirts tailored with larger cuffs.

It depends... If the cuff is very thight, then it wont.. But if it sort of loose one, then it does. So I quess, it all depends on the cuff and your wrist thickness.

I have skinny lil wrists lol. I have muscle in the rest of my arm but my wrists are just bones and tendons. I can put my fingers round and they touch!
So ive never suited watches :(

I've got quite large wrists, but fortunately I get most of my shirts custom made for me in Hong Kong. :thumb:
