Press the "12#" and then the "1/2". It's a bit long for me but they are there.

Well..found some emoticon app to use.Its kinda wonky but I will give it a try.

Ok..the Apps suck.
But..I guess it pays to play with the software first before posting dumb questions.
I found that using the menu brings up options including Insert Smilies.

3rd party SMS apps have smilies included.
I use Handcent, smilies and emoticons are part of the app. Obviously for people to see the smilies or emoticons, they would need a SMS app that supports them.
