Help SMS adding extra characters upon sending?

Anyone else having this issue? It started just after I downloaded the last update.

When I hit the shift area, a "W" shows up...When I hit !, a 2 shows up, and when I use any smilie, the Yen symbol shows up. Very weird.

And most often, adds an errant 'w' when I hit send.

did you do any troubleshooting steps? (battery pull, reset)

are you rooted?

using a 3rd party SMS app?

Thank you for responding. All I've done, so far, is restart the phone, and then take out the battery and put it back in. The phone is in the same condition it was out of the box. No 3rd party apps, not jailbroken, nothing has changed except system updates...today it started adding long strings of characters when I hit the spacebar....I'm at a loss.

could be something physically wrong with your device. could be the digitizer. I would take it into a sprint corp. store to have it checked out. if you are up to it, perhaps a factory reset may be in order...
