SMS and MMS

I noticed on the triumph that when im typing a text messages and it reaches a certain number of characters, it converts it into an MMS message. Some of the people who i sent these MMS messages had problems receiving them. My previous phone would keep them as SMS, but break them up into 2 separate messages. Is there a way to do this in the settings some how?

I don't have my phone handy ATM, but I could swear that there's an option in the Messaging apps settings about breaking/re-assembling messages, and some other settings for MMS and max MMS size, plus resolution IIRC...
