Help SMS in batches?

Is there an app that will let me send a text message to multiple recipients?

The stock messaging app will only let me send to 10 people. Is that due to limitations of the messaging app or is it a restriction put in place by Verizon?

I'd like to send a text message to about 50 people at my work when I need to alert them to inclement weather or other issues.

Handcent will allow you to send batch texts over 10 with their subscription service. It's $9.99/year. I use it at least twice a week and have great success with it. There may be others that offer the same in the Market for less $'s. This one works well for me

Does anyone know of a free one? I rarely use text messaging so don't want to pay for a service I'll hardly ever use.
