Help SMS Issue

When I turn my phone on from having turned it off the previous night the SMS messages that were sent to me while the phone was off are not received until I send a SMS message of my own. This is a recent problem that showed up a week or so ago with the phone being about 6 months old.

Ideas?

Check to see if there is a setting in your sms app for "automatically retrieve messages" or an equivalent.
