Being cheap and turned off SMS by calling VZW (I'd rather be called than pay VZW for texts). When I want to use texting I bring up GV for sending and have been pretty happy with this free service which also supports push notifications when someone sends to that number.
However there are some applications which absolutely require access to sms api's to function (e.g., wave secure). These apps don't know how to leverage GV.
Has anyone hacked the SMS API to allow directing outgoing SMS messages to a GV number via TCP/UDP yet? The next step would be modifying the GV apps to direct incoming texts through the same API to fool these apps...
