Help SMS Messages vanished, can't send any

theray

Lurker
Hi guys,

I have a HTC One SV. My carrier is T-Mobile.

Recently, I was getting alerts that my phone was low on storage. As such, I deleted some extraneous apps and cleared up my data. However, I made sure not to delete my messages.

Now, this may be unrelated (I only mention the above because I haven't done any other updates/changes to my phone recently), but today I went onto my Messages application and it will not show any messages. Bear in mind that I don't really use the Messages application that often (I usually stick with WhatsApp), so I'm not too sure how long this has been a problem (although no more than a few days at most).

All I see on the Messages application is the top menu bar which shows 'All messages' and the 'Search', 'Compose' and 'Menu' icons. I have attached a picture of this.

I know for a fact that I have been sent text messages and these are not coming through/being displayed.

I am also unable to send text messages. I tap 'Compose', type in a contact and message and then press 'Send', but nothing happens. The screen stays on the message and it doesn't send (I've checked with the intended recipient).

I tried using the app 'SMS Backup & Restore' to backup my messages, which I have successfully used in the past. However, it gives me the following error: "An Error has occurred during backup: not an error (code 0)"

I also tried the app 'Super Backup', but this says: "No new messages found to backup."

I also connected my phone to HTC Sync Manager, but this doesn't seem to be able to backup messages (?)... either that or it isn't registering that I have any.

I have also taken the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Turned my phone off and back on. Still the same problem.
  • Restarted my phone. Still the same problem.
  • Turned my phone off, took out the battery and SIM card, then replaced them and turned the phone back on. Still the same problem.
  • 'Force stop' of the Messages app and then opening it. Still the same problem.
The Messages app says it has 0.96MB of data -- I don't know if that's much for messages, but I suspect that means there's nothing there.

None of this looks promising, I know. I rang HTC and they told me to factory reset the phone.

I really want to do anything I can to try and get my messages back. I don't care if I have to ultimately factory reset my phone (although if there's a way to fix the Messages app without having to do this, brilliant!), my main priority is getting my messages back. If this is at all possible....

Any help with this issue would be so greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time in reading this and any assistance. I will keep my eye on the thread!

Thanks again.

Update: I have tried running Wondershare Dr. Fone for Android (trial edition) to recover my messages, but the progress bar gets stuck at 11% and the 'time remaining approx' just keeps looping 1 minute.

Which One SV model do you have? If you boot to fastboot, what is the first line after the line with the lock status of the bootloader?

Sorry, I don't quite understand the question. As far as I'm aware my model number is "HTC One SV" (as my 'Phone identity' says).

Yeah, but there's 4 different versions of the One SV

k2_cl: Boost Mobile version
k2_plc: Cricket version
k2_ul: International (LTE version)
k2_u: International (non-LTE)

If you turn off your device then hold volume down and power to turn on the device, you will reach the bootloader. The second line will tell you which version you have
