Help SMS Messaging not able to send/receive text

Hey Guys,

I have an HTC Desire on the AT&T network in the North American market. It is not rooted, it is on the stock 2.2 build. It was originally a Telus phone from Canada.

My problem is that I was able to send/receive text up until about 1 hour ago. I had my friend send me some texts and I did not receive them. When I try to send a text, the signal bar turns into a big x like it has no signal and just freezes my texting program. I use Handcent on a regular basis but the same problem exists for the stock HTC SMS app when I tried that as well shortly after. I've tried rebooting and removing the battery for 10 minutes, to no avail.

I also receive this error:

"Sorry!
Application Messages (in process com.android.mms) is not responding" with the options of "Force Close" and "Wait"

Please help, I have no clue as to what is going on here...

For what it's worth - my text messages had gotten too large. I had no idea how many text messages I had sent out! I tried a few free apps to clear the text messages, but all of them crashed. I finally just went to Settings -> Application Management -> Clear Data for "Dialer Storage." This is where all your text messages gets saved. Luckily, I had SMS Backup + installed so I only lost a day's worth of text messages anyways...

Hope this helps someone for future reference :)
