Help SMS Notification sounds.....again!!

Hi, looking for help with changing my sms notification sound. I have followed the advice of some threads on how to change the sound, i mean use a sound i have downloaded to the phone ( HTC DESIRE HD ) ie: moved the file into the notifications folder on the SD card and then selected it as notification sound. the problem is it does not work....it is still using the old built in sound even though the new sound is selected.

Any ideas why this is happening and how to resolve it? I have also used ringroid app to see if that works, but sadly it doesnt.

Help!

Hello and welcome to the forums - thanks for joining!

Are you using the stock SMS app? It is a long time since I have used it, but I am sure that there is a way to change the notification sound :)

Hi,

Only just read this, sorry.

Download the app "Go SMS" from the google play store, it's great app anyway, as it give, me all the features I like, inbox ,outbox, sent items etc.

Once downloaded, don't default anything, when you go to, sounds>> notification, the option is there to "complete this" using either Android sounds, (normal), or GoSMS, choose the latter, and it will be defaulted "current" at the moment, but with the options "music" or "system", choose music and everything you've downloaded will be available to choose from.
I see mine is called "Pro" so I might have paid for it, it wouldn't have been more than

Hi,

I'm back, I really did have to rush off, as the other half is taking the first part of her diving exam today.

I realize the OP maybe long gone, but this finishes off what I started.

This applies to ICS, download any music, ringtones, notification you want, off the internet, on to your PC (I have to do it this way, as I don't know how to juggle folders on the phone yet:()

Plug in the phone, turning on USB storage, and opening the folder view.

Then simply copy and paste to the "ringtones" folder that is part of ICS, NOT music, and not notifications, and NOT notifications in the GO SMS folder (surprisingly), unplug your phone, and reboot.

You then follow these links:

Settings>>sounds>>notifications>>complete using GO SMS (NOT android)>>music.:D:D

Anything there can be used as notification tones.

The BIG advantage is that if you choose the right tone it can be at least twice as loud as the default tone supplied.

Google "soundjax" for a huge selection, with a waveform with each tone or tune so you can "see" how loud, and where the high points occur.

Hope this all makes sense, and gives someone a helping hand.:smokingsomb:

Regards, Rom.

BTW DURX or Scotty, feel free, if there are shortcuts to improve this for users, to jump right in and fiddle about.

As this is all new to me, and it's the way I've done it, there's probably better.:confused:
