Help SMS notification tap never works first time

Whenever I get an sms, I pull down the notification bar, tap the notification and the bar retracts.
Repeat a second time and the sms is opened.
Does anyone else have this happen?

Yep. Happens with mine too. Even when I get different notifications. I'm glad I'm not the only one.
 
That's an idea. If I use hangouts to message another person who also has hangouts, can I still force the message to go as an sms?
 
That's good. I have a friend who has an S4, but she was always worried about using too much data. Her solution was to turn mobile data off and only use wifi at home. This means I need to use sms with her otherwise my messages may not get through for hours

Is she aware that if wifi is on, mobile data is automatically off? I just had my router crash yesterday, the wifi stayed up, but the internet connection died. My phone was totally useless until I disabled wifi on the phone, and then it found the 4G network and worked fine.
 
I haven't heard of that before. On all my phones the mobile data has reconnected if wifi has been lost, even if the wifi is still on
