Help SMS problem since 2.3.5 upgrade

IXD706

Lurker
Hey all thanks for taking the time to look at my problems!

I'll be honest I am a Smartphone noob, only had my Desire for maybe 3 months, so please bear with me!

Yesterday evening I got the notification to upgrade the OS to 2.3.5, not problem, set it off downloading, let it install, all seems fine (I don’t like the 'look' my phone has, nor the fact my chosen wallpaper has gone, but that is not why I am writing here,).

Issue

This morning, I started getting an SMS notification which merely says:
SMS message and shows the area code of the location I'm currently in, with the option to save or to cancel. If I select save, it appears in my text messages coming the sender '50', if I choose cancel the message disappears.

However, and it’s a bloody big one, the message keeps coming back! So far today I've had close to 300 of these messages (ok I have driven +300 miles, so have passed through many many areas), but even if I am in the same place, the messages still keep coming... At one point I had about 4 of these in less than 1 minute.

My question is - is there a similar way to turn this off, before my phone ends up out the window? I have picked through the settings, but being a noob I can’t see anything useful anywhere!

That should show you what I mean:

Hello

This might be the cell broadcast message.

To check -from home screen Menu > Settings > Call > scroll down to Cell broadcast and see if it is enabled.

Hope this helps! :)
