SMS Space Saver Tip

For those of you who don't care about backing up or saving your text messages, here's a tip to save a little space.

Tap on the SMS Messaging app, click your Menu button, tap on Settings, tap on Text Messaging Limit and set it to 20. Set Multimedia Message Limit to 5. What this does is save 20 text messages per person and 5 Multimedia messages per person. For instance, if Joe has sent you 20 text messages and he sends you one more, the oldest text he sent will be deleted to make room for the new one. 200 is the default.. if you have 100 contacts and 200 text messages are saved for each contact.. holy cow that's a lot to be saving on your phone!

That's a good idea, since the messages are stored in the phone's internal memory and can cause "memory full" errors.

By the way, if you're afraid of losing the contents of your messages, I recommend getting something like SMS Backup & Restore from the Market. It backs them up to the SD card, so space is less of an issue. And you can view old SMSs later, from within the backup app.
