SMS Status?

When you long press a text you've sent and go to view message details, under status I'm assuming that's should say "received" or "pending" or whatever?

For me it says "(none)"

That's an issue I'd need to take up with my provider, right?
Or am I way off the mark from the start

In your SMS settings, have you ticked the box to request delivery reports? Never tried it, but it seems an obvious first step.
