Snap, Crackle , Pop - 3.5mm problems

So yea I'm a hardcore audiophile and any crackle/pop in my music really p****es me off.

I have had the EVO since Friday, and everything I try (Slacker, Pandora, last.FM, whatever) cracks/pops when the audio is going through the 3.5MM jack to my car.

I'm already on a waitlist for replacement because I think it's faulty hardware.

I've tried multiple cables and even HQ settings.

Coming from a Touch Pro 2 which had amazing sound quality through the 3.5mm jack, needless to say I'm less than happy with the EVO since I primarily stayed with Sprint for uncapped data. If I get a replacement and it still continued, looks like I may be wandering over to that new iPhony.

I urge everyone with this issue to post here so they can resolve it or figure out whats going on.

I just bought an $8 cable from RS and there it sounds great. Sounds like faulty hardware.

Listening to Pandora through the built in speaker right now and I can still hear the distortion/pops.. so it must be hardware.

This rules out the cable or 3.5mm jack.. just the audio decoder or something?

Theres your problem!

Sorry, I'm poking fun. But seriously, you can't expect the best quality through that interface.

I found the bluetooth is actually REALLY nice on the EVO. Give that whirl. I never heard any crackle or pop sounds though.

I'm pretty picky about my audio quality as well for the record.

Thanks for the reply. I know the quality through a wired 3.5 isn't going to be crystal clear, but cracks/pops are not because of a wire. I used the same wire on my Touch Pro 2 and it was flawless.

i noticed this too, i think most people dont pay attention to audio quality because its really annoying to me

It seems to have something to do with lowtones, and for me, the distortion is in thr left headphone output. Any way this can be resolved by software?

To the evos benefit, i only notice it on bass heavy songs

Yes.. it seems to be on the very upper end and lower end of the audible spectrum. Sometimes the highs make a pop and the lows crackle (even at normal volumes). It's just plain odd. If I have the same issue when I get my replacement I will let everyone know.

Its a known problem with slacker and pandora, It has something to do with the audio codec android uses while over the mobile network. Supposedly using WIFI gets rid of the problem, but I have not tested it.

They also sound like garbage on my Incredible, really annoying.

When I hooked up an external speaker to my phone, it was cracking and popping like crazy, but then when I used normal headphones, it was clear as day. As well, the built in speaker is clear for me.

The Evo's 3.5mm jack is horribly low impedance. It hisses like a mother****er with my Shure SE530s (unsurprising, considering that most people will use shit headphones with their phones). If I weren't opposed to hardmodding the thing, I'd add in a resistor myself.

ok, I didn't notice any crackling when I plugged my male to male 3.5 jack into my car stereos aux. It sounds GREAT.

BUT, as soon as I plug the car charger in, it crackles like nobodies business. WTF?

Okay, ive been going nuts trying to figure this out and i think ive pen pointed the issue.

I produce music on my computer and for the most part, everything ive made and put on the evo has the crackling and warping behavior. I tried mixing down my files in every mp3 format possible till i tried the same file in 128.ogg

The same file in mp3 sounds distorted, but mixed down in ogg gives me no sound quality loss. I think the problem is the mp3 codec, it must be decoding things poorly. Once again, same file in ogg gives me no issue, but in mp3 it sucks

This problem shud be fixable by htc with a software update, i hope! I know most of you wont be switching ur library to ogg, but for me, my issue is solved for the moment

If I use the car charger I bought at RS, it cracks and pops.

If I use a USB car lighter adapter with the HTC USB plug that was included with the unit, there is no crack/pop at all.
