So, a few questions..?

I just bought the Huawei Mercury through Cricket tonight, just waiting for it to get here now. Read some reviews on it, checked this forum, all seemed good so I got it.

Basically I just wanted to know some pointers that might be helpful for when I get it? Should I get a screen protector and a phone case to keep it from getting scratched? Where is a good place to get those things, just my local Cricket store??

Also wondering if anyone had any general pointers and things to do/not do that could help me out as being a new user on the phone, so I dont make the same mistakes as you or things of that nature, lol.

So ANY pointers would be greatly appreciated, and thanks for your help!

Don't install a task killer app, no matter who recommends it :)

Cases and screen protectors are a matter of preference, and how you use the phone. I use cases on my old HTC, but no screen protector. Others will have other ideas.

The shiny plastic back of the Mercury does get scratched easily. I put a Zagg full body kit on the back because I don't like cases. (its like a screen protector that covers the whole phone if you're not familiar with it). I haven't bothered putting the screen protector on just because I like the feel of the glass screen, but that's just my preference, and it depends on how careful you are with your phone whether you need it or not. If you decide to get a case, the Cricket stores are usually overpriced, you can find the same thing cheaper online. Check Amazon or Ebay, or do a Google search. Also look for accessories for the Honor, its the GSM version of the same phone. I didn't care for the stock launcher at all, you might want to try a replacement launcher. I use Go Launcher, and its a big improvement. Welcome to the Mercury family!

Welcome to the Merc club as well. As far as the phone itself...If your looking for something comparable to the dual quad phones, well, you're gonna be disappointed. That being said, for a single quad phone,it's dayum good for what you're paying for!
As far as accessories, I've got the Ghost Armor shield on mine...nada on the back.
@Gmash... I've had mine since release day and no scratches... Granted, it's one hell of a fingerprint magnet!!!
To make your Merc that more pleasant to use, you can root and install a custom ROM and apply some tweaks that will speed up your phone... YMMV.

Thanks for the responses guys! I previously had the Huawei Ascend (original not the II) and had it rooted to CM6. Was going to update it to 7 and just never got around to it.

So this is definitely an upgrade to that phone, in speed, looks etc, so Im going to be pleased definitely, I couldn't deal with that slow ass phone anymore, lol.

And I may root the phone, depending on how I like the speed and all once I receive it. It will probably be plenty fast. Are the ROM's bug free? I know they usually have bugs for a little bit.

Also, I think Im going to get a phone case/cover and a screen protector. I have this bad habit of dropping my phone. I was really good about it with my Ascend for a while, but once I started dropping it I just kept doing it, but it still works, just a little scratched.
So for those of you with screen protectors and phone covers, anyone have any good links of where I can buy one from??

I had both Ascends...and the LG Optimus. The Merc is 10x's better!
The ROM out now is a tweak off of stock. I'm rooted and running it along w/v6 Supercharger and my phone flies...

So how's everyone doing? I'm loving this phone its so much faster an smoother then the ascend. That case I got looks pretty bad ass too lol I got it the other day. I got some screen covers but I kind of like the way the screen feels.

Also what's up with the internal SD card an then the other SD card as well under 'Storage' in Settings?

Because I don't have much left on the first sd card and I want to buy a new one possibly of 8 or 16 gb so it'll be faster and ill have more memory overall, and I have like 2.03gb on internal SD card. So I mean is internal more for music an pictures or what an the other one is an.overall SD card orrr what ?

Anyone have some input,

Hey, how's it going? I came from the Ascend myself, and agree the Mercury is a huge upgrade. I also like the feel of the bare glass screen and haven't gotten any scratches yet (knock on wood). The internal SD card is just the memory you can use if you don't have an external SD card. Some people say the internal is a little faster, but I don't think you'll notice any difference in the real world. I bought a 16 GB class 10 card right after a got my Mercury, so I don't really have anything on the internal SD. The RAM is totally different. That's the memory that the OS uses, and the apps that you don't put on the SD card. Glad to hear you're enjoying your new phone!

Thanks. And I'm probably going to get a new SD card tomorrow so I can have more room AND apps. I'm probably going to be sticking with this phone for a while. I hope some ROMs will come out that are good.
