Root So after I've rooted..

I'm running 2.1 still, rooted. I want to find a good backup tool to backup the System and still keep all my apps and layouts, etc. Any suggestions?

Also, I've been reading the forums and getting confused at some things. Can anyone give a brief description of what the following things do?
Clockwork mod?
Koush's recovery? -> i'm guessing a recovery tool
ROM manager? -> Are there even custom ROMs for DX yet?
bootstrap loader?

I'm thinking about doing the 2.2 leak that is already rooted/deodexed so I can theme but do I need any of the aforementioned apps to do so? Any help or a point in the right direction is much appreciated. Thanks!

To back up your current system (apps, layout, etc) just use the bootstrap recovery to make a back up. You can then completely wipe the phone, reinstall bootstrap, and restore your backup. I did this when I was using 2.1 and then when I had 2.2 I went back to 2.1 and restored my 2.1 backup with no problems at all.
