Help so anyone got SWYPE installed?

Hmmm, twice now I've had issues with Swype. I installed it no problem and have used it a few times. Once over the weekend, and again today, I select "Swype" as the input method, start drawing a word, and it traces my finger as expected, but when I release my finger, the word doesn't appear. If I type normal while still in Swype it works fine, but if I go back to drawing words it fails. If I reboot the phone it works again... anyone know what's going on?

anytime you restart your phone that happens. you have to go into "input select" and de-select swype, then re-select swype. e.v.e.r.y.t.i.m.e.

Okay, thanks... I thought I'd selected it after rebooting the phone, but I'll watch for that the next time.

After thinking through your reply, that's not it. As stated, swype was already running, it was already tracing my finger's path, yet when I lifted my finger, the word was not appearing on the screen. Having swype selected wasn't the problem.

mine was doing that as well. I just wrote it off as it couldn't guess the word (was trying to spell Thursday). I hope it isn't a problem, just not getting the word...

That may not be the same problem that i have with swype, but on mine it will trace and look as though it's running after you restart or turn off your phone but will not input text unless i "peck".

The only way to get it to work again is to de-select swype (because it's selected but it doesn't work) and select "android keyboard" then go back into input and re-select "swype."

turn off your phone and try it. This is the same on my Inspire and my gf's incredible, and a friends evo. it will look as though swype is running and trace your finger, but not insert text until you re-boot swype. then it should be back and running.

Yes, rebooting the phone always fixes it, though I don't think de-selecting and re-selecting it did (but I'll try that again next time it happens.) It's not a big problem, and it's worth putting up with because the more I use swype the more awesome it becomes.

I got it working just fine, I posted a complete guide to do it here:
[Guide] Installing Swype Beta on HTC Inspire 4G - Android Forums

It takes a bit of extra work (since the installer and application are separate), but I had it up and running in less than 5 minutes.

your guide worked perfectly... thanks a ton... now to learn how to SWYPE lol... will prob only take 5 min or so to install it on my wifes phone... and not near as bad as I thought it was going to be

It's really sweet, everytime I use it I can make sentences faster than the last tim. Such a simple and elegant solution for flat keyboards.

I know we're not supposed to post apks but if someone can PM me with some pointers as to where to look for a proper version with the correct resolutions for our phones....i would be very very very happy. I love my new phone, but I miss swype. Thanks in advance!

tried slideit - hated it - so inaccurate it isnt funny, and i downloaded from the HTC site the htc sync....i even tried from the forum that i just quoted. i rebooted and everything, now it says device not found. i THINK its an issue with the driver. i dont think i have the right usb driver installed for my ATT Inspire. and another thing that went wrong is that my tmobile mytouch now isnt working with my ddms....no screenshots now either :(

PLEASE HELP!!! lol

It'll work if you follow the instructions TO THE LETTER. Even a single extra space will screw things up. The instructions work - I've never done anything like it before and was really careful, and it works.

so anyone get the trial ended needs an update? and then has anyone done the update? i uninstalled the old swype stuff did the new swype but now get an error message saying that this version of swype is for another phone and may not work, which of course it doesnt. i can single type but not swype.

Yeah, that^. I got that notice too and wondered how hard it is to upgrade, or if I should even bother.

as per the swype beta website you should uninstall both swype and the installer to get the newest versions. which i did but when i try to use the new swype i get the error that it is for another device and wont work properly. i can use it as a regular single type keyboard but swype will not work.

EDIT: got it to work. http://forum.androidcentral.com/htc...-installing-swype-beta-htc-inspire-4g-17.html
post #164 deleting the original apk files from my computer worked. so uninstall both from the phone, delete those 2 files from the computer. then follow the original loading instructions, you can go to the swype website and resend the beta email which will have the newest version. mine now says version 2.29.71 etc when it used to be 2.17 something

Wow, look at those instructions....

If someone could do a video of the installation procedure, that would greatly help. I'm sure many more people would be thankful as well from the good gesture of making a video, as well.

If someone ever does decide to do a video of their Swype installation onto their Inspire 4G, could you please post the link here? Thanks kindly.

Cheers.

Been using beta for sometime now, works well but I still use the gingerbread keyboard. I rooted just for crapware removal and CM 7
