So are you keeping your N7?

(Sat 03 sep 2016 08:12 GMT)
I went from the iPhone 6 Plus to the Note 4 almost two years ago. I never looked back. Don't let this trouble you.
I agree. Never used an iPhone. Enjoyed my Note II n7100 (the model with FM radio complete with RDS, recording, etc). Wanted to upgrade to get 4G connectivity, but the very day (11 Aug 2015) I heard official confirmation that the Note 5 would be an "iNote" (no SD slot!! no removable battery!), I rushed and ordered (from amazon.FR) one of the last Note 4 (white) despite the price was at its peak (649 EUR!), and I am glad I did it. I completed it with an original Samsung S-View Flip-cover (well thought, very high quality execution, extremely convenient daily. Mine is the slick white one, now out of stock, better than the current "waved" one), and an original Samsung Battery + Charger kit (tiny, light, elegant, sturdy yet quick to open or close, protects well the batt, charges fast, lasts long). A 30km bicycle trip (2×15km) into Paris keeping Google Maps GPS Navigation running on my handlebar nearly empties the batt before back home, so the 2nd batt is welcome.
The Note 7 does bring a few interesting new features, but it still has a sealed battery, which the new features don't suffice for me to compensate.

According to this article, the release of the Galaxy S8 is being moved up to try and put this fiasco behind. If this is true, then it's very likely that the timetable for the Note 8 will move up, too.

Which means that those of us who are holding out for the Note 7 may not have long to wait for the Note 8. Since I'm on Verizon's installment plan, I can trade up when the Note 7's half-paid off... which will be right about the time the Note 8 comes out ;)

EXACTLY! I called Verizon (on a recorded line...theirs) and was told that I would receive a brand new SGN7 and no others would be sold until those already sold were replaced. I expect that it will be a brand new phone with a checked battery. Crisis averted

P.S. I was also told to expect replacements to start next week (around the 19th). They even called my local store while I was on hold to confirm expected shipment. I know the local Verizon reps and they said that they did get a call about me and that the information is accurate on the replacement start date.
Wow...not sure if it is acceptable or not, but please excuse me quoting myself. I stopped by my local Verizon store tonight and got my SGN7 exchanged for a new one!!! They had some left so "I Got Mine"! It looks like the Verizon store online gave some accurate information. I have to believe that things were already in motion in spite of the Government involvement. The phones had already been shipped and were just awaiting approval. Samsung is almost too big to fail. They will recover from this just as Apple did. I hope that you all get yours soon and enjoy your phone.

The Note 7 fiasco is one more reason for me to prefer a phone with a removable battery

Exactly my feeling as well!

Matter of fact, just less than 15 minutes ago, I was looking for my phone (Note 3) and realized that I left it on my table outdoors earlier this evening as I had alot to carry from the car and needed to open the door. The phone battery was low from my busy day. I finally went out to get it, checked voicemail, got critical battery warning when all of a sudden it powered off. I needed to make an important call and didn't want to be tethered to anything so I changed the battery, then made my call while being able to multi-task. It's such a convenience for sure!!!

Called MY local Sam's Club yesterday. She was basically clueless. Told me to call today to see if they for the phones in. I am so over this with Sam's. Buyer Beware. Never, ever again. I will only buy through corporate VZW. Chief, any word from your Sam's??

I hope that Samsung has seen the stupidity of the non removable battery now and reverts with the Note 8 to the build it should have been all along with a removable battery. Had they had this feature on the Note 7 they could have had a stock of new batteries in the retailers in no time and saved a fortune in new phones and distribution costs, as yet no one has come up with a figure for the administration and organisation of the replacement phones, never mind the cost of them. One other immediate, and not insignificant, benefit of just being able to put a new battery in your existing Note 7 is that you would not have to configure the phone all over again. Phil

Just a heads-up to European Note 7 owners.... contact your retailer asap and arrange an exchange.

A customer doing the same today confirmed that Samsung are pushing the 60% battery capacity-limiting firmware update to generic UK handsets, which makes it likely that it's going to happen widely. Samsung aren't taking any chances so why should you?

Replacement stock is in-channel so your wait should only be a few days at most. Exchanges are receiving priority over new sales afaik.

I gave up the fight with Sam's club last night. Returned my Note7. They are not set up to take returns and it was a mess. Went across the street to VZW and now have a green battery indicator Note7! Exhausting...be prepared if you return to Sam's. The manager was involved, pen and paper as the system would not allow the return...on and on and still had no idea when they would receive phones.

Just collected my new non exploding variant Note7, it still had a white battery icon, but during the set up an OTA update is pushed and when it had done its thing: I now have an ugly green battery icon that cannot be removed!

Call me crazy but I love my green battery icon! And my ice cold, non battery draining new Note7!
