Root So complicated, brain is mush

HAHA, thanks! It was a bit of a mission. Seems the problems might be the ROM though. The author thinks he has found the problem already and is working on an update. MMS is failing too so there are certainly bugs in the Pinky 0.6 ROM at the moment.

I played safe and flashed nickiberli`s rooted official rom.I`ll probably get more adventurous and try a few more now i have a stable rom to fall back on.

Confirmed that Pinky 0.6 is broken and has been withdrawn. Currently waiting for a new version so I can try again... typical, my first attempt at flashing the ROM and I get a dodgy version!

I'm not really interested in extra stuff, I just want Android 2.2 on my Desire!

i take that back actually, i have just had a good look at that thread and it looks quite decent!

I do apologise to pinkolin

Go careful m8 flashing new roms becomes addictive.

mate, that rom sounds lame! no disrespect to the chef, but there are wayyyy better roms, more stable fster and generally better out there

Like what? I don't want extras or anything special. I'm happy with a basic Android 2.2 with HTC Sense. As long as it's stable I'll be happy!

Well yeah, but I didn't know that at the time did I :p It was the first ROM I've tried.

So, I was looking for a recommendation for one that is.

He just released an update to 0.7, but now it crashes with a Force Close at the setup wizard... Think it still needs more work, but he is actively developing it and releasing updates quickly.

Just wanted to add for anyone else who is reading this thread. Get the Pinky 0.5 ROM, that one does seem to be stable and it's what I'm using right now. I'll wait until he releases a new version that has had a bit more testing before I update it :)

The Pinky ROM does seem to be a good option for a basic Android 2.2 with HTC Sense though.

You could have simply flashed to a generic ROM and updated to 2.2 OTA. This would have been as easy as running an .exe file on the pc with your phone plugged in via usb, then once that done running the OTA update.

Now you're rooted though you can try out some custom ROMS. I know what you mean about the xda-devs forum, it does seem an endless list of ROM after ROM.
