Help so here is a new one: GPS Location ongoing notification

so i get home last night and im sitting at the computer...and all of a sudden this notification pops up...and its blinking...all night it wont stop blinking unless i turn off "stand alone GPS" and then the "location services" icon appears next to the vibrate icon....

well this morning...the notification has stopped blinking...but its always there...only way to remove it is to turn off the stand alone GPS in location settings..

There is a program that is constantly using it. See what you have running under Settings, Manage Applications, Running. It could be something you downloaded recently. Try force closing any suspected ones until the icon disappear.

The blinking icon on the left of the notification bar is for the stand alone GPS. At some point it was turned on, and when that icon is blinking the GPS is trying to get a fix. If you were inside it was probably constantly trying to get a fix.

The other icon near the near the vibrate icon is for E911, which is always on.

- go to the play store
- search for "One More Clock"
- download and install
- open the settings for the widget
- select "set widget theme"
- bottom right "download (7MB) Full Online Collection"
- scroll to the left and select "Chrome Rings"

right, but why does it stay there once there is a fix on my location and it stops blinking??? this just started last night randomly...

That's an android 4.0 thing for the icon to stay in your notification area as long as GPS is active. Did you install any new apps last night? There's something requesting your location.

nope...it literally popped up last night just sitting here on the computer...it was blinking ALL NIGHT...then this morning when i got up it was solid...about an hour ago it went away...then my friend rebooted my phone...its back...

Weird. You could always turn off GPS in the quick settings and just flip it back on when needed. Still, it shouldnt be on so persistently like that...

I'm also encountering the same issue. I've just had the phone for a week now. The location icon would only appear when I would open an app that uses GPS.

Today, all of a sudden, the icon is persistent. I've tried restarting the phone a couple times and closing out any app that uses GPS to no avail.

ive frozen everything i can think of that might even access GPS for that and it won't go away....its so odd...and when THAT notification is there...you will notice that the usual Location Services icon that is normally just to the left of vibrate icon is gone...if i turn off GPS to get the ongoing notification to go away then the location services icon comes back...

Definitely sounds like a rogue app dying to know your location. When GPS is turned off I think most apps will use cell data location as a fall back, hense the loc services icon coming up when you disable GPS. Have you checked running services in addition to killing apps?

Maybe so but I turned off the location setting in Facebook and that didn't do anything for me. Only when I deleted it did it go away.
 
Here's how I fixed mine. I went into application manager and did a force stop on each app until it went away. For me it was LOCAL PLACES app. bye bye.
