Root So How Do You Root This Thing?

rooting wasnt to bad but that damn s-off looks to be a pain in the butt
As far as I'm concerned it's actually easier than the Wildfire S was. Fracking GoldCard nightmare and then some. If you use 4EXT recovery there really isn't a need for s-off. That and people coming from the Triumph are definitely spoiled, Motorola locks down their bootloaders on their real phones and unlike HTC doesn't provide a way for the end user to unlock. Back on topic, while the Triumph could be rooted in 2 minutes the Evo really only takes 10-15 minutes to get root and custom recovery, it looks way worse than it really is.

yeah rooting wasnt so bad, commands are cut and pastable which helps a lot, make sure you do htc sync first and your phone is recognized before hitting the commands, i was prompted to update it right after installation which i did, had to reboot my computer ( left phone plugged in) and just reopened the command prompt and re entered fastboot, i also got stuck wondering if i had to choose the evo 3d sprint version in htc unlock, which i did and all was well, remember to show file extensions in windows control panel, had skipped this step and renamed recovery image -recovery.img.img without knowing, luckily i got curious about why it said to do it, did it , and noticed it before proceeding

So what I'm gathering is that pretty much anything that would work on the 3D would work on the V? I'm going to attempt to root tonight, but want to make sure first (the reply above indicates that this is probably the case).

nope not true..

not sure but im s-off and using 4ext but bootlooped on 4 aosp ics roms from the 3d

not positive about that, what I was referring to was that HTC unlock asks you to choose a device, the evo v isn't an option, the sprint 3d is, so that's what I chose , from what I've been reading, you can flash sprint 3d roms but messaging won't work, cam anyone confirm? I would let HTC sync do is thing and recognize the phone before plugging it in for the command process, I was plugged in then did HTC sync install which prompted for update then pc reboot, was a little worried since the guide says not to unplug till end of procedures but all worked out well

From what I've heard (And I'm probably wrong, I don't even have the phone yet) 4ext has problems flashing Evo 3D ROMs. Anyone using TWRP has been fine flashing any 3VO ROMs.

Yes, from what I've heard, any Evo 3D ROM will work, but only incoming MMS (Not SMS) will be broken. And like I said above, I THINK it has to be flashed with TWRP.

On a side note, I'll probably be getting this phone in a bit and will be asking a lot of questions, so be ready :D
