So... how good is ICS on Note?

I've quite confused: I'm running 4.0.3 however, I've not got anything related to Premium Suite.

Is it supposed that ICS and Premium Suite are both released together for the Note?

It supposed to be bundled in the latest official ICS ROM.. I downloaded from KIES.. my version N7000DXLP5 Kernel 3.0.15-N7000DXLP9-CL551076.

So far so good, smoother, faster, more responsive a few more apps to play with S-note, and more settings. Only negative so far is battery life, but I have a feeling that this will improve with a few cycles, and of course being new you tend to play with it more...

Two days in with ICS:
The battery life has been literally decimated, my GNote went from one day of extremely heavy business use (14Hrs) to two days of moderate use with Ginger Bread 2.3.6 to just a few hours with ICS (8 if I am lucky) if I am very careful with the phone it can only just about make it through the working day.

Charged the Note last night, lost 3% while I was asleep, since 7 am this morning the phone has dropped to 50% with very moderate use, by 5 pm down to just 10%.... nice one Samsung. I will give it a week (already 2 days), if the phone remains the same I will look to revert to GB.

There is a lot of good in ICS, however reducing the run time to 20% - 25% of GB make it a useless upgrade to me. Hopefully it will improve over the next few days, but so far given the numbers I am seeing for my usage pattern it will need to work miracles.

Three of my colleagues have also upgraded to ICS, all with the same result the rest I have warned them of the consequence upgrade or hopefully just the early stages. Personally after a couple of days of regular use have passed, and a battery calibration I seriously doubt the situation will improve drastically, have already DL GB 2.3.6 so we will see at the weekend. One of the most important features of a mobile device is it`s run time I would have far prefered to wait longer than have a crippled device...

Samsumg or Google must do something about this. The phone is as good as useless if it can't last a working day.

Mobile means I must be able to go about untethered.

Loads of folks have been experiencing almost zero battery loss overnight since ICS.

Maybe the battery isn't actually dying but it will take a few days to get the new usage profile correct and display the correct levels. Maybe they have set up off peak times when nothing syncs as well.

Have you let your Note a run few power cycles to re-profile the battery? Should you be panicking so soon? I recommend you let your Note run until it's flat from fully charged at least a couple of times. When my Note was new it had a surprisingly short battery life. Now I can easily get a full day's use and more even with wifi on all day. When I get to update to ICS I expect it will be a similar experience repeated.

That's a good point. But ICS isn't available for anyone on the i717 note yet, so I can't ask there.

Er, yes, but the i717 is a different handset. The user experience will not be the same as a GT-N7000 user. It's like comparing two varieties of pear - yes they are both fruit and both are pears but they don't look the same or taste the same.

I hope so, I am on my second full power cycle 100% to 0, guess I will see in the morning what the result is as presently the phone is extremely limited for anything other than very casual use

Well after several cycles the phone has got a little better, however it is still far from what the battery life was with 2.3.6 and this morning I took the phone off charge sent one msg, and left the phone to sleep by 2 in the afternoon with no use the battery has dropped to 66% if this is Samsung`s ICS solution they need to look again as the phone is consuming the battery for no apparent reason.

Is this with wifi and/or mobile data switched off?

Wifi off, 3G data enabled, same apps as 2.3.6. Did a reboot, phone is now sleeping as before previously I rarely rebooted the phone under GB. At the end of the day I want a hassle free smart phone, I dont mind the initial setup to get what you want, nor do I want a very locked down OS.

As the battery life has improved some I will stick with ICS and see if it gets any better over the next week if not I will go back to 2.3.6 until Samsung update ICS to be more useable. I am beginning to think that if you want ICS it`s better to look at the Nexsus or another brand that doesn't so heavily mask ICS with their own launcher, maybe the S3 wil be an improvement...

The phone was previously being kept awake by 1013 - Media, although no media app was open, nor are there any third party additions. I have also read 1013 is simply a process id although it seems to commonly crop up on my phone as a running process with screen off.

Upgraded to ICS at lunch time and five hours later I have 65% battery left even though the battery wasn't fully charged to start to with. I have been using my Note quite heavily since the update as you might expect. Basically, I'm seeing no difference in battery drain rate. That means for a normal day of 16 hours I will expect 20-40% battery remaining if I keep wifi on all day.
