So how many have Desire's that have been problem free

You know that you can unlock it by swiping down on that curvy black thing that looks to me like a tyre?
 
Seems you guys have had no problems with it. Me on the other hand. I got a call from my provider one day telling me my bill is 3.5k! They said i hav downloaded 600mb and uploaded 6GB! Did a factory reset straight away and barred the internet. I hav no idea how it uploaded that much. so now i downloaded the app net counter and checking it constantly just to see how much internet my Desire is using. So far nothing big yet but gonna give it a few days of running just of the wifi cus my internet is barred.

You misunderstand what I meant.

Unlocking by swiping down is the only way of unlocking that I want. I don't want it to unlock any other way as it happens all the time by accident ie: pressing the damn menu button. :)

I've pulled my phone out of my pocket only to find it one of the different home screens etc. It's annoying.

I recently installed LockBot Pro and it helps, plus I can create my own lock screens but it's missing widgets etc.

Hrm that seems really strange to me. If that much data was used I would suggest you figure out what apps you installed. If you hadn't wiped it; it might have been possible to check the usage to determine what app was using the 3G radio.

I cannot think of a single thing on mine that would be able to transfer that much data. Even on WIFI I haven't used nearly that much on my phone.

Did you download any syncing apps?
 
What you have to remember is forums like this are generally designed for problem solving. It would be a bit boring if everyone just posted weekly updates saying "Yep, Desire is working just fine again this week!" If you went onto a 'my iPhone's f**ked' forum you would see nothing but people posting up bugs and issues. That doesn't by any means represent an accurate cross section of customer satisfaction.

I haven't had any specific problems as such, just needed general hints and tips about the platform and using the phone.

Oh and on the subject of Task Killers, read this and you will see that there is really no need to use one.

Android has quite a sophisticated memory management system, using a task killer just messes with that and will cause you more problems in the long run. Plus it's tedious, no one wants to keep having to manually force close apps anyway. Task killers do nothing for your battery life either...
 
Have mine for 1 month now and only prob i HAD was with the news widget but after a hard reset it is working ok now....
and battery life.....RULES!! no such think as "recharge every day" issue here..

really proud to be an "desirable" owner

I think it depends on what you call 'problems'. There are hundreds of posts here (and in other forums) where people complain about and discuss things that they are not happy with. Some people get pretty incensed that apps can't be put on the SD card (not until the forthcoming upgrade, anyway), for example. Some have problems with the sound, while others don't. Some are Android problems, some Sense, some hardware.

In terms of problems, I'd say that the Desire is better than average, but not perfect.
 
No issues with mine. Niggles me that I have to press two different buttons (power then menu) to unlock it when my G2/Hero had a sensible double-tap-menu to unlock. Other than that, can't fault it.
 
2-3 weeks here.

On the whole I'm happy with everything except for audiobook/podcast support. Apple really does that better, but when I turn my ipod touch on now, the screen just looks ugly.

btw, I mostly come here to help other people & to get the most out of my Desire (app & settings suggestions etc).

I think you're right. What I've tended to see is brits are generally more keen to buy the latest bleeding edge phones and then they often struggle the first few weeks because they don't have the technical know-how - americans are catching up but it's still usually the more technically aware that buy the latest smartphones.

On top of that, SenseUI probably makes some difference (adding another level of UI on top of the base OS is going to create some additional overhead from people who have problems with it, and even if that's a tiny minority they tend to be more vocal because they want to fix their issues).

Anyway, as someone said, forums are where people go for help so it's no bad reflection on the phone if the forums are busy, the main thing is whether the people in the forums can help resolve the problems, and so far every issue I've come up against, someone has already provided the answer I need, so I'm happy :)

It's good to know that so many have had trouble free phones and are still happy, I know I am.

Just waiting for the icing on the cake now so we can have apps2sd without rooting. Then I'll have my perfect phone.

Had my Desire for just over a month now and no problems whatsoever to report :) The phone is amazing and looks so much better than the I-Phone. Which if anything, all look the same. Its just apps all over with them.
Only panick I had was the fact I didn't know when I was going to get messaging and data, until I realised I had to wait 48 hours before I could get connected ;)
If anyone is thinking of getting a Desire and reading this, Go FOR IT!
 
This is also my first smart phone and i have had since April and i have had no issues niggles or otherwise what so ever its also unlocked and unbranded, i love my phone and would happily recommend the phone to others.
 
I've had my Desire for about a month now, and I've had no problems at all other than a couple I've caused eg over-zealous task killing stopping my alarm from going off.

When I'm actually using my phone sensibly rather than playing with it the battery life is no worse than it was on my N95, and the Desire's the best phone I've ever had.
 
Had mine a couple of weeks or so now. Unbranded from CPW. No real issues of note with it but then I haven't tried to be to clever with it.

I wonder how many issues are actually self inflicted?

'kin 'ell. That's more bandwidth than I've used on my home broadband this month. What you doing, streaming video for YouTube :D
 
Had a few minor software issues, HTC recommended a software reset, and it's been fine since then. Had it for over a month now.

Even then, the problems weren't really anything that would've kept me from loving and recommending the phone.
 
Only problem I've had is that I received a text from "Fitspace" (no number) and it's shown up on my phone as a random facebook contact :(

Everything else has been perfect :D

I don't understand - pressing the menu button on my Desire when the phone is asleep does nothing. You have to touch the power button to wake it up.
